Sublime Baby Cashmere Merino Silk 4ply (4ply weight; 75% extrafine merino, 20% silk, 5% cashmere; 170m/184yds per 50g ball)

NEEDLES & ACCESSORIES

1 pair 3.75mm (UK 9/US 5) knitting needles

TENSION

26 sts and 42.5 rows to 10cm over garter st on 3.75mm needles, after blocking.

26 sts and 36 rows to 10cm over lace pattern on 3.75mm needles, after blocking.

SPECIAL TECHNIQUES

SEWN CAST-OFF

Break the yarn, leaving a tail approx, three times the length of the cast-off edge. Using a blunt tapestry needle, *insert tapestry needle into first 2 sts pwise, pull yarn all the way through leaving the sts on the knitting needle. Insert tapestry needle into first st again but kwise this time and slip this st off the knitting needle; rep from * to end.

THREE-NEEDLE CAST-OFF

Hold two pieces with RS together and needles parallel: *K1 st from front needle and 1 st from back needle tog; rep from * then cast off 1 st. Repeat this sequence until all sts are cast off.

LACE PANEL

Using 3.5mm needles and yarn A, cast on 44 (46:48:53:53) sts.

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

Rep last 2 rows a further 3 times (8 rows garter stitch worked).

COMMENCE LACE CHART

Row 1 (RS): K5 (6:7:1:1), work row 1 of Chart 2 (2:2:3:3) times, K5 (6:7:1:1).

Row 2 (WS) & all following WS rows: Purl.

Row 3: K5 (6:7:1:1), work row 3 of Chart 2 (2:2:3:3) times, K5 (6:7:1:1).

Continue working through all 14 rows of the Chart a total of 12 (13:13:14:14) times.

COMMENCE GARTER STITCH

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Cast off using the sewn cast-off method.

LACE PANEL

Using 3.5mm needles and yarn A, cast on 44 (46:48:53:53) sts.

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

Rep last 2 rows a further 3 times (8 rows garter stitch worked).

COMMENCE LACE CHART

Row 1 (RS): K5 (6:7:1:1), work row 1 of Chart 2 (2:2:3:3) times, K5 (6:7:1:1).

Row 2 (WS) & all following WS rows: Purl.

Row 3: K5 (6:7:1:1), work row 3 of Chart 2 (2:2:3:3) times, K5 (6:7:1:1).

Continue working through all 14 rows of the Chart a total of 9 (10:10:11:11) times.

COMMENCE GARTER STITCH

Row 1 (RS): Knit.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

Rep last 2 rows once more.

Cast off using the sewn cast-off.

RIGHT BACK

Using 3.75mm needles and yarn A, starting at the lower edge of the Back Lace Panel, pick up and K124 (126:132:134:136) sts along one side of the lace panel.

Commence garter stitch, working stripe sequence (see Stitch Patterns) and work until garter stitch rows meas 15 (17 1/2:19 1/2:21 1/2:24) cm, ending with a WS row.

Continue sleeves as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K67 (67:69:69:66) sts and then place these sts on hold. Knit. 57 (59:63:65:70) sts

Continue working on sleeve sts only as established. Work until sleeve meas 15 (15 1/2:16:16 1/2:17) cm.

Cast off using the sewn cast-off.

LEFT BACK

Using 3.75mm needles and yarn A, starting at the top edge of the Back Lace Panel, pick up and K124 (126:132:134:136) sts along the other side of the lace panel.

Commence garter stitch, working stripe sequence as set, and work until the garter stitch rows meas 15 (17 1/2:19 1/2:21 1/2:24) cm.

Continue sleeves as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K57 (59:63:65:70) sts and leave the rem 67 (67:69:69:66) sts on hold. 57 (59:63:65:70) sts.

Continue working on sleeve sts only as established. Work until sleeve meas 15 (17 1/2:19 1/2:21 1/2:24)cm.

Cast off using the sewn cast-off.

LEFT FRONT

Using 3.75mm needles and yarn A, starting at the lower edge of the front Lace Panel, pick up and K94 (104:104:114:114) sts along one side of the lace panel.

Commence garter stitch, working stripe sequence as set, while increasing as foll:

Row 1 (WS): K2, M1, knit to end. 1 st inc'd.

Row 2: K to last 2 sts, M1, K2. 1 st inc'd.

Rep last 2 rows a further 2 times. 100 (110:110:120:120) sts.

Next row (WS): Using the cable cast-on method, cast on 24 (16:22:14:16) sts, knit to end. 124 (126:132:134:136) sts.

Continue working in stripe pattern until the garter stitch rows match Back to beg of sleeves, ending with a WS row.

Continue sleeves as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K67 (67:69:69:66) sts, then place these st on hold. Knit. 57 (59:63:65:70) sts

Continue working on sleeve sts only as established. Work until sleeve matches back sleeve.

Cast off using the sewn cast-off.

RIGHT FRONT

Using 3.75mm needles and yarn A, starting at the top edge of the Front Lace Panel, pick up and K94 (104:104:114:114) sts along one side of the lace panel.

Commence garter stitch, working stripe sequence as set while increasing as foll:

Row 1 (WS): K to last 2 sts, M1, K2. 1 st inc'd.

Row 2: K2, M1, knit to end. 1 st inc'd.

Rep last 2 rows a further 2 times. 100 (110:110:120:120) sts.

Next row (WS): K to end, using the cable cast-on method cast on 24 (16:22:14:16) sts. 124 (126:132:134:135) sts.

Continue working in stripe pattern until the garter stitch rows match Back to beg of sleeves.

Continue sleeves as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K57 (59:63:67:70) sts and leave the rem 67 (67:69:69:66) sts on hold. 57 (59:63:67:70) sts

Continue working on sleeve sts only as established. Work until sleeve matches back sleeve.

Cast off using the sewn cast-off.

FINISHING

Join side seams by working a three-needle cast-off on the WS (knitwise).

Seam underarm and top of sleeve/shoulder seam. Weave in ends. Block to measurements, following any yarn care instructions on the ball band.
