SIZES

To fit: UK size 8[10:12:14:16]

Actual measurement: 83[86:94:97:105]cm (32.75[34:37:38:41.5]in)

Length to back neck: 47[48:49:50:51]cm (18.5[19:19.25:19.5:20]in)

Figures in square brackets refer to larger sizes: where there is only one set of figures this applies to all sizes.

YOU WILL NEED

Conway + Bliss Cleo 62% cotton, 38% polyamide (approx 90m per 50g)

8[9:10:11:12] x 50g balls 07 Citric Acid

1 pair each 4.5mm and 5mm needles

Stitch holder

Row counter

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

19 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over st st using 5mm needles.

22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm over patt using 5mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

PATTERN NOTES

When working from Chart odd-numbered (RS) rows are read from R to L, even- numbered (WS) rows are read from L to R.

BACK AND FRONT (both alike)

With 4.5mm needles, cast on 93[97:105:109:117] sts.

Row 1 (RS): Work 2[4:8:10:5] sts before patt rep, work across 18 st patt rep 5[5:5:5:6] times, work 1[3:7:9:4] sts after patt rep.

Row 2 (WS): Work 1[3:7:9:4] sts before patt rep, work across 18 st patt rep 5[5:5:5:6] times, work 2[4:8:10:5] sts after patt rep.

These 2 rows set position of Chart.

Work Chart Rows 3 and 4, then rep Chart Rows 1 to 4 again.

Change to 5mm needles.

Cont to work in main patt from Chart as folls: Work Chart Rows 5 to 16, then Rows 1 to 4. The last 16 rows form patt and are repeated. Cont in patt until work meas 31cm (12.25in) from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

Shape for Cap Sleeve

Taking sts into patt, cast on 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. 103[107:115:119:127] sts.

Cont straight until work meas 47[48:49:50:51]cm (18.5[19:19.25:19.75:20]in) from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

Shape Shoulders and Neck

Next row (RS): Patt 34[35:38:39:42], turn and work on these sts only for first side of neck, leave rem sts on a spare needle.

Next row: Work 2 tog, patt to end.

Next row: Cast off 5 sts, patt to last 2 sts, work 2 tog.

Rep last 2 rows 3 times more and first row again.

Cast off rem 5[6:9:10:13] sts.

With RS facing, sl centre 35[37:39:41:43] sts onto a holder, rejoin yarn to rem sts, patt to end. 34[35:38:39:42] sts.

Next row: Patt to last 2 sts, work 2 tog.

Next row: Work 2 tog, patt to end.

Next row: Cast off 5 sts, patt to last 2 sts, work 2 tog.

Rep last 2 rows 3 times more.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 5[6:9:10:13] sts.

NECKBAND

Join right shoulder seam.

With RS facing and 4.5mm needles, pick up and k10 sts down left front neck, k35[37:39:41:43] from front neck holder, pick up and k10 sts up right front neck, 10 sts down right back neck, k35[37:39:41:43] sts from back neck holder, then pick up and k10 sts up left back neck. 110[114:118:122:126] sts.

Knit 2 rows.

Cast off knitwise on WS.

TO FINISH OFF

Join side and armband seams.

Darn in loose ends.
