Finished Measurements

Note: Bust measurements are given for unstretched fabric, fabric will stretch slightly when worn.

Materials

• 2 (2, 2, 3, 3) skeins of Noro/KFI Taiyo Sock in #S8

•One size 10 (6mm) circular needle, 32"/80cm long OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

•Two size 3 (3.25mm) double-pointed needles (dpn) for l-cord drawstring

•Size D/3 (3.25mm) crochet hook

Gauge

16 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm over pattern stitch, unstretched, using size 10 (6mm) needle.

TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

Pattern Stitch

(over an even number of sts)

Row 1 P1, *yo, p2tog; rep from * to last st, p1. Rep row 1 for pattern stitch.

Notes

1) Tee is worked sideways from sleeve to sleeve.

2) Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of sts. Do not join.

3) A larger size needle than recommended on the ball band is used to create and open, airy fabric.

Back

Cast on 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts for lower edge of right sleeve.

Work in pattern stitch until sleeve measures 4 (4, 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2)"/10 (10, 11.5, 12.5, 14)cm, end with a WS row.

Next row (RS) Cast on 58 (60, 62, 62, 62) sts for side seam, work in pat to end—86 (90, 94, 96, 98) sts.

Cont in pattern stitch over all sts until piece measures 16(18, 20, 22, 24)"/40.5 (45.5, 51, 56, 61)cm from side seam cast-on row, end with a WS row.

Next row (RS) Bind off 58 (60, 62, 62, 62) sts, work in pat to end—28 (30, 32, 34, 36) sts.

Cont in pattern stitch until sleeve measures 4 (4, 4 1/2, 5, 5 1/2)"/10 (10, 11.5, 12.5, 14) from bind- off row.

Bind off rem sts.

Front

Work same as for back.

Finishing

With RS together, using crochet hook, slip stitch shoulder seams tog 7 (8, 9 1/2, 11, 12 1/2)"/18 (20.5, 24, 28, 31.5)cm from each shoulder edge, leaving approx 10"/25.5cm unseamed for neck opening. Slip stitch side and underarm seams. 

Neck and lower edging

With RS facing and crochet hook, work a rnd of single crochet evenly around neck opening.

Repeat along lower edging of shell.

Drawstring

With dpn, cast on 3 sts and work l-cord as foll: *Knit one row. Without turning work, slide the sts back to the opposite end of needle to work next row from RS. Pull yarn tightly from the end of the row. Rep from * until l-cord measures approx 36 (40, 44, 48, 52)"/91.5 (101.5, 111.5, 122, 132)cm long. Using photo as guide, pull drawstring evenly through yarn over spaces approx 8"/20.5cm from lower edge. Knot ends of drawstring and tie.
