Measurements 

Width along top edge (including edging) 121cm/47 1/2in.

Depth at centre (including edging) 54cm/21 1/4in.

Materials

5 x 50g (120m) balls of Sublime Superfine Alpaca DK (100% alpaca) in Tusk (430).

Pair of 5mm (No. 6) knitting needles; a long 5mm (No. 6) circular needle; size 3.00 crochet hook.

Tension

15 stitches and 34 rows, to 10 x 10cm, over garter stitch (every row k) and 19 rows of edging measures 9cm, using 5mm needles.

Note: Yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are therefore approximate. Instructions in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.

Centre

With 5mm needles, cast on 1 st.

1st row: Yon, k1 - 2sts.

2nd row: Yon, k2 - 3 sts.

3rd row: Yon, k to end.

Repeat 3rd row, 151 times more - 155 sts. Cast off loosely.

Edging

With 5mm circular needle, work along row-ends of centre thus: k1 in first yon, [p1, k1, p1] in each of next 76 yon along first side, pick up and k1 st from point of centre, [p1, k1, p1] in each of next 76 yon along other side of centre, k1 in last yon - 459 sts. Work backwards and forwards in rows. K 1 row. Work pattern thus:

1st row: K229, yf, k1, yf, k229 - 461 sts. 

2nd row: P. 

3rd row: K1, *[skpo] twice, [yf, k1] 3 times, yf, [k2tog] twice, k1 *, repeat from * to * 18 times more, [yf, k1] 4 times, repeat from * to * 19 times - 465 sts.

4th row: K.

5th row: K.

6th row: P.

7th row: K1, *[skpo] twice, [yf, k1] 3 times, yf, [k2tog] twice, k1 *, repeat from * to * 18 times more, [yf, k1] 8 times, repeat from * to * 19 times - 473 sts.

8th row: K.

9th row: K.

10th row: P.

11th row: K1, *[skpo] twice, [yf, k1] 3 times, yf, [k2tog] twice, k1 *, repeat from * to * 18 times more, [yf, k1] 16 times, repeat from * to * 19 times - 489 sts.

12th row: K.

13th row: K.

14th row: P.

15th row: K1, *[skpo] twice, [yf, k1] 3 times, yf, [k2tog] twice, k1 *, repeat from * to * 18 times more, [yf, k1] 32 times, repeat from * to * 19 times - 521 sts. 

16th row: K. Change to 3.00 crochet hook.

Next row: Sst in first st, [4ch, slst in each of next 2 sts] until all sts are worked off, then work in same way along row-ends of edgings and cast off sts of centre, slst in 1st st. Fasten off.
