Contrast A Burgundy (07636) or Navy (07711) 1 ball

Bernat Super Value Stripes (5 oz/142 g; 275 yds/251 m)

Contrast B Spice Stripes (73005) or Jungle Green Stripes (73004) 1 ball

Set of 4 sizes U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) and U.S. 8 (5 mm) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

1 stitch marker.

Hat is worked in rounds on 4 double-pointed knitting needles from K2. P2. ribbing upwards. Chevron stitch is an easy 2 round repeat.

GAUGE 18 sts and 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking stitch.

INSTRUCTIONS

With set of smaller needles and A, cast on 88 sts. Divide onto 3 needles. Join in rnd, placing marker at first st.

1 st rnd: *K2. P2. Rep from * around.

Rep last rnd 7 times more.

Next rnd: *K4. M1. Rep from * around. 110 sts. Break A.

Change to set of larger needles and with B, proceed in pat as follows:

1 st rnd: *K2tog. K3. (K1. yo. K1) all in next st. K3. ssk. Rep from *around.

2nd rnd: Purl. Rep last 2 rnds until work from beg measures approx 7 1/2" [19 cm], ending on a 2nd rnd. 

Shape top:

1st rnd: *K2tog. K7. ssk. Rep from * around. 90 sts.

2nd and alt rnds: Purl.

3rd rnd: *K2tog. K2. (K1. yo. K1) all in next st. K2. ssk. Rep from * around.

5th rnd: *K2tog. K5. ssk. Rep from * around. 70 sts.

7th rnd: *K2tog. K1. (K1. yo. K1) all in next st. K1. ssk. Rep from * around.

9th rnd: *K2tog. K3. ssk. Rep from * around. 50 sts.

11th rnd:*K2tog. (K1.yo. K1) all in next st. ssk. Rep from * around. 

13th rnd: *K2tog. K1. ssk. Rep from * around. 30 sts.

14th rnd: *K2tog. Rep from * around. 15 sts.

Break yarn leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely.
