TENSION

16.5 sts by 22 rows to 10cm over main patt, using 6.00mm needles

GETTING STARTED

Note - This jumper has been worked on larger needles and a looser tension than normally recommended.

All the measurements while knitting the jumper are shorter and narrower than the finished measurements to allow for pressing when garment pieces are completed.

WORKING PATTERN

BACK

Using 6.00mm needles and 2 strands of yarn together, cast on 58 (66, 74, 82, 90) sts.

Row 1: K2, * P2, K2, rep from * to end.

Row 2: P2, * K2, P2, rep from * to end.

Rep 1st and 2nd rows once, inc 2 sts evenly across last row. 60 (68, 76, 84, 92) sts, 4 rows rib in all.

Note: When using single strand, do not break off 2nd strand but carry it loosely along side edge catching in on alternate rows.

Beg Main Patt

Using 2 strands of yarn together, work 8 rows stocking st.

Using 1 strand of yarn, work 8 rows stocking st.

Last 1 6 rows form patt.

Cont in patt until Back measures 43cm from beg, working last row on wrong side.

Shape Armholes

Keeping main patt correct, cast off 1 (2, 3, 4, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 58 (64, 70, 76, 84) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foil alt row until 54 (58, 62, 68, 74) sts rem. **

Work 25 (25, 25, 27, 27) rows patt.

Shape Back Neck

Next row: Patt 20 (21, 22, 24, 26), cast off next 14 (16, 18, 20, 22) sts, patt to end.

Cont on these last 20 (21, 22, 24, 26) sts for left side of back neck. Keeping patt correct, dec one st at neck edge in every row until 16 (17, 1 8, 20, 22) sts rem.

Shape Shoulder

Row 1: Cast off 5 (5, 5, 6, 7) sts, patt to last 2 sts, patt 2tog.

Row 2: Patt 2tog, patt to end.

Row 3: Cast off 5 (5, 5, 6, 7) sts, patt to end.

Row 4: Patt to end.

Cast off rem 4 (5, 6, 6, 6) sts.

With wrong side facing, join yarn to rem 20 (21, 22, 24, 26) sts for right side of back neck.

Keeping patt correct, dec one st at neck edge in every row until 17 (18, 19, 21, 23) sts rem.

Shape Shoulder

Row 1: Cast off 5 (5, 5, 6, 7) sts, patt to last 2 sts, patt 2tog.

Row 2: Patt 2tog, patt to end.

Row 3: As 1 st row.

Row 4: Patt to end.

Cast off rem 4 (5, 6, 6, 6) sts.

FRONT

Work as given for Back to **.

Work 11 (1 1, 9, 11, 9) rows patt.

Shape Neck

Next Row: Patt 20 (21, 23, 25, 28), turn.

Cont on these 20 (21, 23, 25, 28) sts for left side of neck.

Keeping patt correct, dec one st at neck edge in every foil alt row until 16 (17, 18, 20, 22) sts rem, then in every foil 4th row until 14 (15, 16, 18, 20) sts rem.

Work 1 row patt.

Shape Shoulder

Cast off 5 (5, 5, 6, 7) sts at beg of next row and foil alt row.

Work 1 row patt.

Cast off rem 4 (5, 6, 6, 6) sts.

With right side facing, slip next 14 (16, 16, 18, 18) sts onto stitch, holder and leave for neckband.

Join yarn to rem 20 (21, 23, 25, 28) sts, patt to end.

Cont on these 20 (21, 23, 25, 28) sts for right side of neck.

Keeping patt correct, dec one st at neck edge in every foil alt row until 16 (17, 18, 20, 22) sts rem, then in every foil 4th row until 14 (15, 16, 18, 20) sts rem.

Work 2 rows patt.

Shape Shoulder

Work as given for other shoulder.

SLEEVES

Using 6.00mm needles and 2 strands of yarn together, cast on 30 (34, 34, 34, 34) sts.

Work 4 rows rib as given for Back, inc 0 (0, 0, 2, 2) sts evenly across last row. 30 (34, 34, 36, 36) sts.

Beg Main Patt

Working in main patt as given for Back, inc one st at each end of next row, then in every foil 8th (8th, 6th, 4th, 4th) row until there are 38 (42, 52, 40, 56) sts, then in every foil 10th (10th, 8th, 6th, 6th) row until there are 48 (52, 58, 62, 68) sts.

Cont in patt (without further inc) until Sleeve measures approx 43cm from beg, ending with the same patt row as Back and Front to beg of armhole shaping.

Shape Top

Keeping patt correct, cast off 1 (1,1, 2, 2) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 46 (50, 56, 58, 64) sts.

Dec one st at each end of next row, then in every foil alt row until 38 (42, 50, 52, 60) sts, then in every row until 8 (8, 8, 10, 10) sts rem.

Cast off rem sts.

NECKBAND

Pin out pieces, matching to finished measurements and very lightly press all pieces on wrong side before sewing together. Join shoulder seams. With right side facing, using 6.00mm double, pointed needles, 2 strands of yarn together and beg at left shoulder seam, knit up 18 (18, 20, 20, 22) sts evenly along left side of front neck, knit across sts on front neck stitch, holder, knit up 18 (18, 20, 20, 22) sts evenly along right side of front neck, knit up 6 sts evenly along right side of back neck, knit up 14 (16, 18, 20, 22) evenly across back neck, then knit up 6 sts evenly along left back neck. 76 (80, 86, 90, 96) sts.

Knit one round.

Cast off loosely knitways.

MAKING UP

Placing centre of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew in sleeves evenly. Join side and sleeve seams, taking care to match stripes.
