Pattern Notes

Pullover is worked in 1 piece from the neck to the top of the sleeves, then front and back are worked separately to the base of the underarm. Front and back are then joined and the body is worked in the round to the lower edge.

When shaping in Lace pattern, if you can't work both the yarn over and its accompanying decrease, work in stockinette stitch instead.

Using 24-inch circular needle, cast on 144 sts, pm for beg of rnd and join, being careful not to twist sts.

Purl 3 rnds.

Knit 1 rnd.

Set-up rnd: *P2, pm, work 10-st Lace panel, pm; rep from * to end, omitting final marker.

Work 11 rnds even.

Note: Change to 40-inch circular needle when sts no longer fit comfortably on shorter needle.

Inc rnd 1: *P1, M1P, p1, sm, work to next marker, sm; rep from * end—156 sts.

Work 11 rnds even, working new sts in rev St st.

Inc rnd 2: *M1P, purl to marker, M1P, work to next marker, sm; rep from * to end—24 sts inc.

Rep Inc rnd 2 [every 12 rnds] twice, then every 6 rnds 0 (0, 1, 2, 3) time(s)—228 (252, 276, 300, 324) sts.

Division rnd: Remove beg-of-rnd marker; purl to 1 st before first marker; bind off next 12 sts for top of right sleeve (removing markers); work 101 (113, 125, 137, 149) sts and place last 102 (114, 126, 138, 150) sts worked on 24-inch circular needle for front; bind off next 12 sts for top of left sleeve (removing markers); work to end of back—102 (114, 126, 138, 150) sts each for front and back.

Working on back sts only, work 1 row even.

Dec row (RS): Work 2 sts tog in pat, work to last 2 sts, work 2 sts tog in pat—2 sts dec.

Rep Dec row [every RS row] 17 (19, 21, 21, 21) times—66 (74, 82, 90, 98) sts. Work 7 rows even.

Leave sts on 40-inch needle.

With WS facing, rejoin yarn to front sts; work as for back.

Joining rnd: Work across front sts, then across back sts, working all sts onto 24-inch circular needle. Pm for beg of rnd and join.

Knit 1 rnd. Work [Rnds 1-8 of Lace Rib pat] 3 times, then Rnds 1 and 2 once. Bind off all sts in pat.

Block piece to measurements.

Armhole Edging

With RS facing, using 24-inch circular needle and beg at center underarm, pick up and knit 90 (96, 102, 108, 114) sts evenly spaced around armhole. Pm for beg of rnd and join.

Purl 1 rnd. Transfer sts to 40-inch circular needle and set aside.

Make 30 (32, 34, 36, 38) for each armhole

Using 24-inch circular needle, cast on 3 sts. Work 16 rows in St st. Cut yarn, leaving sts on needle.

Work rem 29 (31, 33, 35, 37) strips on same needle as for first, cutting yarn and leaving each strip on needle. Make sure all strips are worked so that knit side is facing.

Slide strips to opposite end of needle, ready to work across first strip.

Join Strips (RS): K3 from first strip; holding cast-on edge of first strip behind 2nd strip with RS facing, [k1 from 2nd strip tog with 1 st picked up from cast-on edge of first strip] 3 times.

This forms a closed halfloop with the first strip.

Take cast-on end of 2nd strip through closed loop, then around behind 3rd strip and join 2nd and 3rd strips as for first and 2nd. Continue in this manner until all strips are joined; last strip will be joined to first. Purl 1 rnd. Graft strips to armhole edging using Kitchener st. Weave in ends.
