Pullover with diagonal rib



Pair this classic pullover with your favorite jeans, trousers, pencil skirt and - even - a chiffon skirt. Conclusion: A gray luxury pullover belongs in every wardrobe.

Sizes: Small (Medium)

Instructions are for size Small. Changes for size Medium are in parentheses. If there is only one number it applies to both sizes.

Materials:

Lana Grossa "Cool Wool Alpaca" (70% Merino Wool Extrafine, 30% Baby Alpaca, yardage = 140 m/50 g) 400 (450) g light gray (#7).

Knitting needles, one pair each sizes US 7 and 8 (4.5 and 5mm), crochet hook size US G-6 (4 mm).

Rib Pat: K1, P1 Rib.

Stockinette st (St st): Knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows.

Gauge:

In St st with US 8 (5 mm) needles: 20.5 sts and 27 rows = 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm. 

Rib Pat (diagonal) with US 8 (5 mm) needles: 30 sts and 27 rows = 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm, measured unstretched.

Full-Fashioned Inc: at beg of row: K1 (selvage st), k1, M1 (insert LH needle into horizontal strand between last st worked and next st on needle, k through back lp of strand); at end of row: work to last 2 sts, M1, k1, k1 (selvage st).

Note: Back is 2"/5 cm longer then Front.

Back:

Lower Piece: With US 8 (5 mm) needles cast on 5 sts and purl 1 row on WS. Then cont in pats as foll:

Row 1: K2, p1, k2.

Row 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts

Row 3: K2, insert LH needle into horizontal strand between last st worked and next st on needle, work p1, k1 into this strand, p1, insert LH needle into horizontal strand between last st worked and next st on needle, work k1 tbl, p1 tbl into this strand, k2.

Row 4: P2, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1, p2. Cont in this way to inc 2 sts each side (at 2 sts in from each end as in Row 3) every RS row, and working inc sts into Rib Pat, until piece measures 17 1/2 (19)"/44 (48) cm from beg (= lower edge).

Work decs as foll: on RS rows: k1, SK2P (sl 1 st, k2tog, pass sl st over k2tog), *p1, k1; rep from * to last 4 sts, end k3tog, k1. 

On WS rows: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Cont in this way to dec 2 sts each side every RS row until there are 5 sts. On the foll RS row, work k1, k3tog, k1. Bind off rem 3 sts. 

Top Piece = Yoke: With US 8 (5 mm) needles pick up 92 (100) sts along top edge (picking up sts into the horizontal strand between the sts) and work in St st, and on the 1st row work the sts through the back loop. Work even until yoke measures 6"/15 cm. Bind off. 

Front: Work same as Back until yoke measures 4"/10 cm. Bind off.

Sleeves: With US 7 (4.5mm) needles cast on 44 sts and work in Rib Pat for 4 3/4"/12 cm and inc 8 sts evenly spaced across last WS row = 52 sts. Change to US 8 (5 mm) needles and cont in St st. For the sleeve shaping, after 12 rows above rib, inc 1 st each side on next row, then every alternate 12th and 14th row 7 times, working Full-Fashioned Inc = 68 sts. Work even until sleeve measures 21 1/2"/55 cm from beg. Bind off sts. 

Finishing: Sew shoulder seams over 3 1/4 (4)"/8 (10) cm on each side. With center of bound-off sts of sleeve at shoulder seam, sew top of sleeve to front and back. Sew side and sleeve seams. With RS facing and crochet hook, work 1 rnd sc and 1 rnd crab st (= sc from left to right) evenly around neck edge.
