Winter poncho



Poncho please, is the current fashion maxim. The chunky center cables and the bright contrasting color tipping make this a must-have style for winter.

Size: Small to Large

The oversized silhouette of this jacket fits from sizes Small to Large.

Materials: Lana Grossa "Soffilo" (40% Baby Alpaca, 38% Merino Wool, 22% Polyamide, yardage = 40 m/50 g) 650g dark gray heather (#4), 50 g cyclamen (#6).

1 long and one short circular needle size US 19 (15 mm).

Rib Pat: K2, P2 Rib.

Stockinette st: Knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows; in rnds, knit every rnd.

Diamond Pat: Follow the Chart.

Gauge:

St st with US 17 (15 mm) needle: 7.5 sts and 10.5 rows = approx 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm.

Diamond Pat over 18 sts: approx 8 1/4"/21 cm wide.

The Poncho is worked in one piece in the round from the lower edge to the collar: With long circular needle and cyclamen, cast on 100 sts, join taking care not to twists sts on needle. Place marker for beg of rnd = center back. Work in Rib Pat as foll: *1 rnd dark gray heather, 1 rnd cyclamen; rep from * once more, then work 4 rnds with dark gray heather. Piece measures approx 3 1/2"/9 cm. Cont with dark gray heather in pats as foll: 41 sts in St st, 18 sts Cable Pat, 41 sts in St st. Cont in pats as established until piece measures 13"/33 cm from beg. For the armhole slits, divide piece into 3 sections and inc 1 st at beg and end of each section for selvage sts, as foll: 1st section: 37 sts, 2nd section 26 sts, 3rd section 37 sts. Work each section separately, working back and forth in rows, for 6 1/4"/16 cm.

Then cont over all sts in rnds, and dec 1 st each side of each section. Work even until piece measures 21 1/2"/55 cm from beg. For the raglan shaping, work in pats from beg of rnd as foll: k13, p1, k1, p1 (=3 sts rib), k14, p1, k1, p1, k8, 18 sts Cable Pat, k8, p1, k1, p1, k14, p1, k1, p1, k13. On the foll rnd before the rib sts work SKP (= sl 1 knitwise, k1, then pass sl st over k1), after the rib work k2tog = 8 sts dec'd = 92 sts. Rep these decs every 4th rnd 6 times more = 44 sts. Work even until piece measures 31 1/2"/80 cm from beg. For the border to the right of the Cable Pat sts and the 2 sts before, bind off 3 sts and cont to work back and forth in rows, cont the Cable Pat and work the rem sts in St st, for approx 6 1/4"/16 cm. Place sts on a holder. 

Finishing: Along the open edge of the collar, with RS facing and dark gray heather pick up and k approx 16 sts along each side of collar. Work in Rib Pat for 2 rows. On the next row, on the front edge band, work a buttonhole in each p rib (= p2tog, yo for each buttonhole). When band measures approx 2"/5 cm bind off sts in rib. Sew ends of band tog. Place the sts on holder to needle and pick 4 sts along side of narrow band and work in Rib Pat over all sts, and on the 3rd row work another buttonhole on right band as before. Work 1 row more, then work 1 row with cyclamen in Rib Pat and bind off in rib. Sew on buttons. For the armhole borders, with dark gray heather pick up and k approx 20 sts along front slit and work in Rib Pat for 4 rows. Rib 1 row with cyclamen then bind off in rib. Sew ends of band in place.
