YOU WILL NEED

Stitch Nation Washable Ewe 100% wool (167m per 100g) 1 x 100g ball in Strawberry 3903

1 pair each of 3.75mm and 4mm needles

1 set 4mm double-pointed needles (dpns)

2 stitch markers

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

20 sts and 27 rows to 10cm (4in) over st st using 4mm needles

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

ABBREVIATIONS

SK2P = sl, k2tog, psso the k2tog - 2 stitches have been decreased

S2KP = s2 stitches together, k1, pass 2 slip stitches over the k1

sm = slip marker

PATTERN NOTES

Mitts are worked back and forth on two needles. Thumbs are worked back and forth on 3 dpns.

LEFT MITT

Using 4mm needles, cast on 38 sts.

Row 1 (RS): *K2, p2; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

The last 2 rows form 2x2 rib. Cont in 2x2 rib for a further 8 rows, dec 1 st at end of last row (37 sts).

Work Chart

Row 1 (RS): K18, pm, k1(thumb gusset), pm, k2, work Chart row 1 over next 13 sts, k3.

Row 2: P3, work Chart row 2 over next 13 sts, p2, sm, pi, sm, p18.

Cont to foll Chart in this way to row 15, then rep rows 6 to 15 three times more, then rows 6 to 10 once, ending with a WS row.

Thumb gusset

Next row (RS): Knit to first marker, sm, m1, k1, m1, sm, k2, work Chart row 11 over next 13 sts, k3 (39 sts). 

Cont to inc 1 st after first marker and 1 st before 2nd marker every other row 5 times more, AT THE SAME TIME cont to foll Chart to row 15, then rep rows 6 to 11 once, ending with a RS row (49 sts).

Next row (WS): P3, work Chart row 12 over next 13 sts, p2, drop marker, place next 13 sts on scrap yarn for thumb, drop marker, cast on 1 st, p18 (37 sts). 

Working as set, cont to work Chart to row 15, then rep rows 6 to 15 once more, ending with a RS row.

Change to 3.75mm needles.

Next row (WS): Purl, dec 1 st at end of row (36 sts).

Next row: *K2, p2; rep from * to end. Rep last row 3 times more. Cast off in rib.

Thumb

Place 13 sts from scrap yarn on 3 dpns (5 sts on first needle and 4 sts on 2nd and 3rd needles). Join yarn, then with 4th needle, k13, then pick up and knit 1 st in cast-on st at base of thumb, turn (14 sts - 5 sts on first needle, 4 sts on 2nd needle, and 5 sts on 3rd needle). 

Work back and forth in rows.

Next row: Purl. Cont in 2x2 rib as for start of mitt for 4 rows. Cast off in rib. 

RIGHT MITT

Using 4mm needles, cast on 38 sts.

Row 1 (RS): *K2, p2; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 2: P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

The last 2 rows form 2x2 rib.

Cont in 2x2 rib for a further 8 rows, dec 1 st at end of last row (37 sts).

Sew side and thumb seams. Block pieces to measurements.
