"Alta Moda Cashmere" (80% Wool, 20% Cashmere, yardage = 90m/50 g) 400 (450) g black (#12).
"Splendid" (72% Super Kid Mohair, 21% Nylon, 7% Polyester, yardage = 165 m/25 g) approx 50 (75) g black/silver (#7).
Knitting needles, one pair size US 10 1/2 (7mm), one circular needle size US 10 1/2 (7mm).
Crochet hook size US H-8 (5mm).
5 buttons (Art. 451084, #80, 3/4"/20mm, from Union Knopf).
Stockinette st (St st): Knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows.
Seed st: over an even number of sts RS rows: *K1, p1; rep from * to end. WS rows: *P1, k1; rep from * to end. Rep rows 1 and 2.
Main Pat:
Row 1: With black, knit.
Rows 2-10: With black, work Seed st.
Rows 11 and 12: With black/silver, knit.
Rows 3-20: With black, work in St st.
Rows 21-22: With black/silver, knit. Rep rows 1-22.
Gauge: Over Main pat with US 10 1/2 (7mm) needles: 12.5 sts and 23 rows = 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm.
Back: With black/silver loosely cast on 60 (66) sts and knit 1 row on WS. Cont in Main pat until piece measures approx 11 1/2"/29 cm from beg. Work armhole shaping as foll: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows, 1 st at beg of next 4 rows = 48 (54) sts. Work even until armhole measures approx 6 1/2"/17 cm. Work shoulder and neck shaping as foll: Bind off 4 (5) sts at beg of next 2 rows, 4 (5) sts at beg of next 4 rows, at the same time, with the first shoulder bind off, bind off center 20 sts for neck and working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 2 sts once.
Left Front: With black/silver, loosely cast on 28 (32) sts and knit 1 row on WS. Cont in Main pat. Work same as back, working armhole and shoulder shaping at beg of RS rows. When piece measures approx 15 3/4"/40 cm from beg, for the neck shaping, bind off from beg of WS rows, 6 sts once, 2 sts once and dec 1 st every 2nd row 2 (3) times.
Right Front: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping.
Sleeves: With black/silver, loosely cast on 32 sts and knit 1 row on WS. Cont in Main pat until piece measures 4"/10 cm from beg. Inc 1 st each side on next row then every 16th row 4 times = 42 sts. Work even until piece measures 17 1/2"/44 cm from beg. Work cap shaping as foll: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 13 times, bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 8 sts.
Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. With RS facing, black/silver and circular needle, pick up and knit approx 64 sts evenly around neck edge and knit 1 row on WS, then with black knit 1 row, then work 11 rows in Seed st. Bind off sts loosely. For button band, with RS facing and black/silver, pick up and knit approx 70 sts evenly along left front edge, including side of neckband. Knit 1 row on WS, then with black, knit 1 row, then work in Seed st for 9 rows. With black/silver, knit 2 rows. Bind off.
For buttonhole band, with RS facing and black/silver, pick up and knit approx 70 sts evenly along right front edge, including side of neckband. Knit 1 row on WS, then with black, knit 1 row, then work in Seed st for 2 rows. Buttonhole row (WS): Work 4 sts, [yo, k2tog, work 13 sts] 4 times, yo, k2tog, work to end. Complete same as button band. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
