Ailish by DY Choice
With its modern shape, chunky textures and bright shade of yarn, this jacket is a youthful take on traditional Aran knitwear. It's worked using a DY Choice yarn called Aran With Wool, which comes in great-value 400g balls. It's available in bright and neutral solid colours as well as tweedy shades.

SLEEVES
Using 4.5mm needles cast on 38 (38:38:38) sts.
Row 1: *K2, P2, rep from * to last 2 sts, K2.
Row 2: *P2, K2 rep from * to last 2 sts, P2. Rep last 2 rows 8 times more.
Change to 5mm needles.
Cont in rib as set throughout, working incs into patt.
Inc 1 st at each end of the foll 4 (8:9:14) 4th rows, then inc 1 st at each end of the foll 10 (8:8:5) 6th rows. 66 (70:72:76) sts.
Work without further shaping until Sleeve meas 46 (47:48:48)cm.
SHAPE TOP
Cast off 3 (4:6:8) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st at each end of the next 5 (6:7:8) RS rows. 50 (50:46:44) sts.
Cast off rem sts.
COLLAR
Join shoulder seams. Using 5mm needles, and with RS facing. K across 11 sts from holder for right front, pick up and knit 18 sts from side of front neck, 6 sts down side of back neck, 34 sts from cast off sts of back neck, 6 sts from up side of back neck, 18 sts from side of left front neck, and knit across 11 sts from holder for left neck. 104 sts.
Next row (WS): K across all sts.
Next row: P3, *K2, P2, rep from * to last 5 sts, K2, P3.
Next row: K3, *P2, K2, rep from * to last 5 sts, P2, K3.
Keeping rib as set, work 6 more rows.
Change to 4.5mm needles, work 6 rows as set.
Change to 5mm needles, work 8 rows as set.
Cast off all sts in rib.
BUTTONBAND
Using 4.5mm needles with RS facing, pick up and K 92 (96:96:100) sts from edge of collar and left front.
Next row (WS): K to end.
Next row (RS): *P2, K2, rep from * to end. Rep the last row 9 times more.
Cast off all sts purlwise. Mark positions for 5 buttons evenly spaced.
BUTTONHOLE BAND
Using 4.5mm needles with RS facing, pick up and K 92 (96:96:100) sts from Right front and collar.
Next row (WS): K to end.
Next row (RS): *K2, P2, rep from * to end. Rep the last row 3 times more.
Next row (RS)(Buttonhole row): Make 5 buttonholes to correspond with markers on button band as follows: patt to position of buttonhole, cast off 2 sts, (cast on 2 st over these cast off sts on the next row), patt to position of next buttonhole and rep.
Cont in K2, P2 rib as set for 5 rows.
Cast off all sts purlwise.
FINISHING
Fold sleeves in half lengthwise and place fold to shoulder seam. Sew sleeve top in place. Join side seams and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
