FINISHED SIZE 15 1/2 (17 1/2, 19 1/2, 21 1/2, 23 1/2, 25 1/2)" back width.

Cardigan shown measures 17 1/2".

YARN Fibra Natura Llamalini (40% royal llama, 35% silk bourette, 25% linen; 109 yd [100 m]/1 3/4 oz [50 g]):

#112 Caspian, 8 (9, 10, 10, 11, 12) skeins.

NEEDLES Size 7 (4.5 mm): straight and 36" circular (cir).

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

NOTIONS Markers (m); removable m; stitch holders; tapestry needle.

GAUGE 16 sts and 22 rows = 4" in St st.

NOTES

This cardigan is worked back and forth in pieces and seamed. The fronts, back, and hood are worked from the top down. The sleeves are worked from the bottom up.

Leave removable markers on fronts in place until front edging has been picked up.

STITCH GUIDE

SLOPED BIND-OFF: On last row before BO, sl last st pwise.

BO ROW [Sl 1 pwise] 2 times, pass 2nd st over first to BO 1 st, BO rem sts as usual.

Right Front

With straight needles, CO 11 (12, 14, 15, 17, 18) sts. Work in St st for 8 (8, 8, 6, 8, 6) rows, ending with a WS row.

NECK

INC ROW (RS) Knit to last 2 sts, M1, k2—1 neck st inc'd. After all shaping is complete, there are 23 (27, 31, 35, 39, 43) sts and piece measures about 8 1/2 (9, 9 1/4, 10, 10 1/4, 11)" from shoulder CO. Hood

With RS facing and working along left side of piece beg at CO edge, pick up and knit 25 sts evenly along left side edge, pm, knit across 29 (29, 31, 33, 33, 35) live sts, pm, pick up and knit 25 sts evenly along right side of piece—79 (79, 81, 83, 83, 85) sts. Shape right side of hood using short-rows as foll, working in St st:

NEXT ROW (RS) K7 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10) for left front hood and place these sts on holder, BO center 49 (49, 51, 53, 53, 55) sts, knit to end—7 (8, 8, 9, 9, 10) sts rem for right front hood. 

RIGHT FRONT HOOD: Purl 1 WS row. Using the Sloped BO method, at beg of RS rows, BO 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sts once, then BO 4 (5, 5, 5, 5, 6) sts once—no sts rem.

LEFT FRONT HOOD: Return left front hood sts to needle and with WS facing, rejoin yarn.

NEXT ROW (WS) Sl 1 pwise wyf, purl to end. Knit 1 RS row. At beg of WS rows, BO 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sts once, then BO 4 (5, 5, 5, 5, 6) sts once—no sts rem.

Finishing

Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve caps into armholes. Sew right front hood to right front, beg about 1 3/4 (2, 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/4, 2 1/2)" below shoulder seam. Sew center back hood BO edge to back neck. Sew left front hood to left front, ending about 1 3/4 (2, 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/4, 2 1/2)" below shoulder seam.

FRONT EDGING: With cir needle, RS facing, and beg at side of lower right front curved edge, pick up and knit 43 (47, 50, 55, 58, 60) sts along curved edge to first removable m, 28 (26, 29, 28, 29, 27) sts to 2nd m, 27 (29, 29, 31, 33, 34) sts up right neck edge to beg of hood, 52 sts up right side of hood to hood CO edge, 27 (27, 29, 31, 31, 33) sts along hood CO edge, 52 sts down left side of hood, 27 (29, 29, 31, 33, 34) sts down left neck edge to next m, 28 (26, 29, 28, 29, 27) sts to next m, and 43 (47, 50, 55, 58, 60) sts along lower left front curved edge - 327 (335, 349, 363, 375, 379) sts.
