Worked in multiple strands of worsted-weight yarn held together, this cute flower-adorned tote is not only bright and colorful but sturdy and durable as well.

MATERIALS

• Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/364 yds/198g per skein):

2 1/4 oz #336 warm brown

1 1/2 oz each #886 blue, #885 delft blue, #360 cafe latte, #334 buff, #528 medium purple and #356 amethyst

1 1/4 oz each #406 medium thyme and #624 tea leaf

1 oz each #726 coral and #254 pumpkin

• Size J/10/6mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

• Stitch marker

• Straight pins

• 22mm flat buttons: 4 (optional)

GAUGE

Holding 3 strands of yarn tog, 11 sc = 4 inches; 12 rnds = 4 inches.

Holding 2 strands of yarn tog, 12 sc = 4 inches; 13 rnds = 4 inches.

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Hold 3 strands of yarn together as one for Bottom Base.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

Hold 2 strands of yarn together as one for remainder of bag.

To increase, work 2 single crochet in same stitch.

Rnd 1 (RS): Holding 1 strand buff and 2 strands cafe latte tog (see Pattern Notes), ch 30, working in back bar of ch (see illustration), 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of next 27 chs, 3 sc in last ch, working on opposite side of foundation ch, sc in each of next 27 chs, sc in same ch as beg sc, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. (60 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 27 sts, 2 sc in each of next 3 sts, sc in each of next 27 sts, 2 sc in last st, join in beg sc. (66 sc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, mark last st moving marker up each rad, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 27 sts, 2 sc in each of next 6 sts, sc in each of next 27 sts, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts Join in beg sc. (78 sc)

Rnd 1: With RS facing, holding 1 strand cafe latte and 1 strand warm brown tog (see Pattern Notes), working in back lps only (see Stitch Guide), join yarn with sc in any st, sc in each st around Join in beg sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, working through both lps, sc in each st around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, inc 2 sc evenly sp around Join in beg sc. Fasten off. (80 sc)

Rnd 4: With RS facing, holding 1 strand of medium thyme and 1 strand of tea leaf tog, join yam with sc in any st, sc in each st around Join in beg sc.

Rnd 5: Rep rnd 3. (82 sc)

Rnds 6 & 7: With amethyst and medium purple, rep rnds 4 and 5. (84 sc)

Rnds 8 & 9: With blue and delft blue, rep rnds 4 and 5. Do not fasten off. (86 sc)

Vertical Stripes

First Blue Stripe

Row 1: With RS facing, holding 1 strand of blue and 1 strand of delft blue tog, join with sc in marked st, remove marker, sc in next 7 sts, turn, (8 sc)

Rows 2-27: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

First Purple Stripe

Row 1: With RS facing, holding 1 strand of amethyst and 1 strand of medium purple tog, join yarn in last st of first row on previous stripe, sc in next 4 sts, turn. (4 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sl st in last st of corresponding row on previous stripe, turn, sc in each st across, turn.

Rows 4-27: [Rep rows 2 and 3] 12 times. At end of last row, fasten off.

First Green Stripe

Row 1: With RS facing, holding 1 strand of medium thyme and 1 strand of tea leaf tog, join yarn in last st of first row on previous stripe, sc in next 10 sts, turn. (10 sc)

Rows 2-27: Rep rows 2-27 of First Purple Stripe.

First Orange Stripe

Row 1: With RS facing, holding 1 strand of pumpkin and 1 strand of coral tog, join yarn in last st of first row on previous stripe, sc in each of next 4 sts, turn. (4 sc)

Rows 2-27: Rep rows 2-27 of First Purple Stripe.

2nd Blue Stripe

Row 1: With RS facing, holding 1 strand of blue and 1 strand of delft blue tog, join yam in last st of first row on previous stripe, sc in each of next 8 sts, turn. (8 sc)

2nd Purple Stripe

Top Edging

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in first st, sk next st, *(sc, ch 2, sc) in next st, sk next st, rep from * around, join in beg sc. Fasten off. (90 sc, 45 ch-2 sps)

HANDLE

Make 2.

Row 1: Holding 1 strand of cafe latte and 1 strand of warm brown tog, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, turn. (2 sc)

Rows 2-85: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

FLOWER

Make 4.

Rnd 1: Holding 1 strand of buff and 1 strand of warm brown tog, ch 6 Join in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 12 sc in ring, join in beg sc. (12 sc)

Rnd 2: *(Hdc, 3 dc, hdc) in next st, si st in next st, rep from * around, placing last si st in same st as joining. Fasten off, leaving 12-inch end for sewing. (12 hdc, 18 dc)

ASSEMBLY

With RS facing, position first Handle along outer edges of First Green Stripe and pin in place. Position 2nd Handle along outer edges of 3rd Blue Stripe and pin in place. Using tapestry needle and warm brown, sew Handles in place. Sew 1 Flower to each end of Handles. If desired, sew 1 button to center of each flower.
