King Cole Fashion Aran 70% premium acrylic, 30% wool (approx. 200m per 100g ball)

7[7:7:8:8:8]x 100g balls 630 Lewis

1 pair each 4mm, 4.5mm and 5mm needles

1 cable needle

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

18 sts and 25 rows to 10 cm over st st, using 5mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

ABBREVIATIONS

mp = make 1 purl-wise

C8 = sl3 sts on cable needle to back of work, k1, k3 from cable needle, slip next st on cable needle to front of work, k3, k1 from cable needle

C6 = sl3 sts on cable needle to front of work, k3 from cable needle.

BACK

Using 4mm needles, cast on 83[93:101:111:119:129] sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, (p1, k1)to last, st, k1.

Row 2: K1, (p1, k1) to end.

Rep these 2 rib rows for 9cm (3.5in), ending after Row 1.

Shape armholes

Cast off loosely 5[6:7:7:8:9] sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Dec 1 st at each end of next 5[5:5:7:7:9] rows, then on every foll alt row until 82[88:94:98:104:110] sts rem. **

Cont straight until Back measures 65[66:67:69:70:71]cm (25.75[26:26.25:27:27.5:28]in) from beg, measured through centre of work, ending after a WS row.

Shape shoulders

Cast off loosely 7[8:9:9:10:11] sts at beg of next 4 rows, then 8[8:8:10:10:11] sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Cast off rem 38[40:42:42:44:44] sts firmly.

FRONT

Work as Back to **.

Divide for neck

Next row: Patt 22[24:26:28:30:33], cast off next 38[40:42:42:44:44] sts firmly, patt to end.

Cont straight on last group of sts until Front measures same as Back to shoulder shaping, ending at armhole edge.

Shape shoulder

Cast off 7[8:9:9:10:11] sts at beg of next and foil alt row.

Work 1 row. Cast off. With RS facing rejoin yarn to rem sts and complete to match first half.

SLEEVES

Using 4mm needles, cast on 35[37:37:39:39:41] sts.

Work in rib as on back for 7cm (2.75in), ending after Row 1.

Next row: P2[3:3:4:4:5], (mp, p2) 16 times, mp, p to end. 52[54:54:56:56:58] sts.

Change to 5mm needles and cont in st st with centre section in cables to match centre section of Front and Back

Row 1: K2[3:3:4:4:5], p3, work as Row 1 of Back from * to *, p3, k2[3:3:4:4:5].

Row 2: P2[3:3:4:4:5], k3, work as Row 2 of Back from * to *, k3, p2[3:3:4:4:5].

Rows 3 to 6: Rep Rows 1 to 2 twice.

Row 7: K2[3:3:4:4:5], p3, work as Row 7 of Back from * to *, p3, k2[3:3:4:4:5].

Row 8: As Row 2.

Cont in patt as set to match centre sections of Back and Front at the same time now inc 1 st at each end of next row, then on every foll 8th[8th:6th:6th:6th:4th] row until there are 60[66:72:76:70:66] sts, then on every foll 10th[8th:8th:8th:6th:6th] row until there are 70[74:78:82:84:88] sts, taking extra sts into st st. 

Cont straight until Sleeve measures 47[47:47:48:48:48]cm (18.5[18.5:18.5:19:19:19]in) from beg, ending after a WS row.

Shape top

Cast off loosely 5[6:7:7:8:9] sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work 0[2:4:4:6:8] rows straight.

Dec 1 st at each end of next row, then on every foll alt row until 34[38:40:44:42:48] sts rem, then on every row until 24[28:30:34:32:38] sts rem.

Cast off loosely.

COLLAR (WORKED SIDEWAYS)

Begin at outer edge.

Using 4.5mm needles, cast on 104[108:112:112:116:120] sts.

Row 1 (RS): K3, (p2, k2) to last st, k1.

Row 2: P3, (k2, p2) to last st, p1.

Cont in rib as set on these 2 rows for 7cm (2.75in).

Change to 4mm needles and cont in rib until work measures 13cm (5in), ending after Row 2.

Shape neck edge

Row 1: Rib to last 8 sts, turn.

Row 2: Sl1 firmly, rib to last 8 sts, turn.

Rows 3 to 4: Sl1 firmly, rib to last 12 sts, turn. 

Rows 5 to 6: Sl1 firmly, rib to last 16 sts, turn.

Rows 7 to 8: Sl1 firmly, rib to last 20 sts, turn.

Cont in this way working 4 sts fewer on every row until the 2 rows sl1, rib to last 36 sts, turn have been worked.

 Next row: Sl1, rib to end of row.

Cast off in rib.

TO FINISH OFF

Join shoulders. Stitch cast-off edge of collar to neck edge, leaving front cast-off sts free. Overlapping left edge over right edge stitch side edges of collar to cast-off sts at front of neck as in photograph.

Sew in Sleeve tops. Join side and Sleeve seams.
