Sideways rib

Foundation row (RS): Ch 1, sc 1 in second ch from hook and in each ch across, turn.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc 1 in blo of each sc across, turn. Rep row 1 for patt. 

Textured

Foundation row: Ch 2, skip first sc, *sc 1 in next sc, dc 1 in next sc; rep from * across, ending row with hdc 1 in last sc, turn.

Row 1: Ch 2, skip first hdc, *sc 1 in next dc, dc 1 in next sc; rep from * across, ending row with hdc 1 in top of turning ch-2, turn. Rep row 1 for patt.

Note

Throughout, each sc, hdc, dc, hdc2tog, and turning ch-2 counts as 1 st.

SWEATER

Back

With smaller hook, ch 16.

Work in sideways rib patt on 15 sts until the piece, when slightly stretched, measures approx 19 (21, 23, 25, 27)" from beg.

Fasten off.

With larger hook, join yarn to right edge of one longer side of ribbed piece, ch 1.

Work 80 (88, 96, 104, 112) sc evenly spaced along long edge of ribbed piece. Ch 2, turn.

Beg textured patt, and work even until piece measures approx 16 1/2" from beg, ending with a WS row. Do not ch 2. Turn.

Shape armholes

Next row (RS): Sl st in first 5 (7, 7, 9, 9) sts, ch 2, work in patt until 4 (6, 6, 8, 8) sts rem. Ch 2, turn, leaving rest of row unworked. (72 [76, 84, 88, 96] sts)

Work even until piece measures approx 25 (25 1/2, 25 1/2, 26, 26 1/2)" from beg, ending with a WS row. 

Shape neck

Next row (RS): Work across the first 20 (22, 26, 28, 32) sts, ch 2, turn, leaving rest of row unworked.

Work even on this side until the piece measures approx 26 (26 1/2, 26 1/2, 27, 27 1/2)" from beg. Fasten off. 

For second side of neck, with RS facing, skip center 32 sts, join yarn with a slip st to next st, ch 2, and complete same as first side.

Front

Work as for back until piece measures approx 18 1/2 (19, 19, 19 1/2, 19 1/2, 20)" from beg, ending with a WS row.

Shape neck

Next row (RS): Work across first 33 (35, 39, 41, 45) sts, work hdc2tog to combine next 2 sts, hdc 1 in next st; join second ball of yarn with a sl st in next st, ch 2, skip st where si st was worked, work hdc2tog to combine next 2 sts, work in patt to end.

Working both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st each neck edge every row 11 more times, then every other row 4 times. (20 [22, 26, 28, 32] sts each side)

Work even until piece measures same as back to shoulders.

Fasten off.

Sleeves

With smaller hook, ch 16.

Work in sideways rib patt on 15 sts until the piece, when slightly stretched, measures approx 8 1/2" from beg.

Fasten off.

With larger hook, join yarn to right edge of one longer side of ribbed piece, ch 1.

Work 38 sc evenly spaced along long edge of ribbed piece. Ch 2, turn.

Beg textured patt, and inc 1 st each side of every row 0 (0, 0, 4, 10) times, every other row 13 (18, 20, 19, 15) times, then every 4 rows 6 (3, 1, 0, 0) times. (76 [80, 80, 84, 88] sts)

Work even until sleeve measures approx 20 1/2 (20 1/2, 19 1/2, 19 1/2, 18 1/2)" from beg.

Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.

Neckline edging

With smaller hook and RS facing, join yarn with a slip st to lower edge of left front neck edge, ch 1.

Work one row of sc along left front neck edge, around back of neck, and down right front edge to center front.

Fasten off.

Neckband

With smaller hook, ch 6.

Work in sideways rib patt on 5 sts until the piece, when slightly stretched, fits along the neckline edging, beg at lower left neck edge at the front, along back of neck, and down right neck edge to center front.

Fasten off.

Sew neckband in place, overlapping edges at center front. Set in sleeves. Sew sleeve and side seams.

Weave in ends. Block.
