Modified cable pattern pullover for men. The yarn gives the volume of this pullover support. Off the slopes, pair it with slim-cut flannel pants and tough high-quality boots or brogues.
Size: 48/50 and 56/58.
Instructions are given for first size. Figure in parentheses refer to larger size. When only one figure is given, it applies to both sizes.
Materials: "Softy" (98% Merino wool, 2% polyamide, approx. 53 m/50 g): 850 (1000) g in Aqua, col 19; size 10 and 12 mm Addi needles; size 10 mm circular needle, 40 cm/16" long; cable needle (cn).
Rib pattern: K2, p2.
Cable pattern: Work according to chart. Work RS rows from right to left. On all WS rows not shown on chart, work sts as they appear. Beg chart pat with 2 sts before first arrow, work 12 sts between arrows for pat repeat, and end with 2 sts after 2nd arrow. Repeat rows 1-10 throughout.
Seed Stitch: K1, p1; on foll rows, knit all purl sts and purl all knit sts.
Tension: 11.5 sts and 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4" x 4" in cable pat on size 12 mm needles; 10 sts and 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm/4" x 4" in seed st on size 12 mm needles.
Back: With size 10 mm needles, cast on 64 (76) sts.
Next WS row: Selvedge st, p1, * k2, p2; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2, p1, selvedge st. Work in rib pat as established until back measures 7 cm/2 3/4" = 11 rows from cast-on. Change to size 12 mm needles and work in cable pat according to chart, working pat rep 5 (6) times across row. When back measures 43 cm/17" = 56 rows from cast-on, shape armholes as foll: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 1 st at beg of next 6 (8) rows = 52 (62) sts. Cont in pat until armhole measures 23 cm/9" = 30 rows from beg.
Shape neck: Sl center 16 (20) sts to holder. Working each side separately, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once. Cont in pat until back measures 76 cm/30" from cast-on. Bind off remaining 15 (18) sts for each shoulder.
Front: Work same as for back until armhole measures 18 cm/7" = 24 rows from beg.
Shape neck: Sl center 8 (12) sts to holder. Working each side separately, bind off 3 sts at each neck edge once, then 2 sts once, then 1 st every other row twice. Cont in pat until front measures 76 cm/30" from cast-on. Bind off remaining 15 (18) sts for each shoulder.
Sleeves: With size 10 mm needles, cast on 30 sts.
Next WS row: Selvedge st, p1, * k2, p2; rep from * to last 4 sts, k2, p1, selvedge st. Work in rib pat as established until sleeve measures 7 cm/2 3/4" = 11 rows from cast-on. Change to size 12 mm needles, work in seed st and shape sleeve as foll: Inc 1 st at beg and end of 11th row worked in seed st, then alternately every 6th and 8th row (every foll 6th row) 6 (7) times = 44 (46) sts. Cont in seed st until sleeve measures 42 cm/16 1/2" = 56 rows from rib pat.
Shape sleeve cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 1 st at beg of next 20 (22) rows. Bind off remaining 18 sts on next RS row.
Finishing: Pin pieces to measurements and block with damp towels. Sew shoulder seams. Sl 16 (20) back neck sts from holder to circular needle, then pick up and k 12 sts along left back neck and left front neck edge, sl 8 (12) front neck sts from holder to circular needle, then pick up and k 12 sts along right front and right back neck edge = 48 (56) sts. Join for working in rnds and work rib pat in rnds for 5 cm/2". Bind off all sts. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves.
