Aran pullover



Smooth yarns give nice definition to textured patterns. A graphic example: the petrol blue turtleneck in classic Aran stitches.

Size: Man's Medium

Materials:

Lana Grossa "Alta Moda Superbaby Fine" (63% Merino Wool, 27% Baby Alpaca, 10% Polyamide, yardage = 105 m/25 g) 700 g petrol (#10). 

Knitting needles one pair each sizes US 4 and 6 (3.5 and 4mm), one circular needle size US 4 (3.5mm).

Rib Pat: K2, P2 Rib.

Stockinette st: Knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows.

Rev St st: Purl on RS rows, knit on WS rows.

Cable Pat A: Follow Chart A.

Cable Pat B: Follow Chart B.

Slip st rib over 4 sts:

RS rows: sl 1 st purlwise with yarn at back, p2, sl 1 st purlwise with yarn at back.

WS rows: p the sl st, k2, p the sl st

Double Seed St: Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from *. Rows 2 and 4: K the knit sts and p the purl sts. Row 3:_P1, *k1, p1; rep from *. Rep rows 1-4. 

Gauge:

Over all pats on Front and Back: 30-31 sts and 34 rows = approx 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm.

Cable Pat A: 34-35 sts and 34 rows = approx 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm.

Back: With US 4 (3.5mm) needles cast on 152 sts and work in Rib Pat for 2 3/4"/7 cm, and on the last row inc 20 sts evenly across = 172 sts. Change to US 6 (4mm) needles and work in pats as foll: k1 (selvage st), 16 sts Cable Pat A = 16 sts between the arrows, 1 st Rev St st, 4 sts Slip st rib, 16 sts Cable B, 13 sts Seed st, 2 sts Rev St st, 4 sts Slip st rib, 26 sts Cable Pat A, 6 sts in St st, 26 sts Cable Pat A, 4 sts Slip st rib, 2 sts Rev St st, 13 sts Seed st, 16 sts Cable Pat B, 4 sts Slip st rib,17 sts Cable Pat A (= the first 17 sts of the chart), k1 (selvage st).

Work even until piece measures 17 3/4"/45 cm from beg. For the armhole shaping bind off 17 sts at beg of next 2 rows = 138 sts. Work even until armhole measures 9"/23 cm. For the shoulder shaping bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 8 sts at beg of next 8 rows. Bind off row rem 62 sts.

Front: Work same as Back until piece measures 25"/63 cm from beg. For the neck shaping bind off the center 22 sts and working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 5 sts once, 4 sts once, 3 sts once, 2 sts once and dec 1 st every 2nd row 6 times.

Sleeves: With US 4 (3.5mm) needles cast on 66 sts and work in Rib Pat for 2 3/4"/7 cm, and on the last WS row inc 24 sts evenly across = 90 sts. Change to US 6 (4mm) needles and cont in Cable Pat A as foll: k1 (selvage st), work the rep 5 times, work the 8 sts after the 2nd arrow, k1 (selvage st). For the sleeve shaping, inc 1 st each side on the 7th row, then every 6th row 4 times and every 4th row 30 times, working inc sts into pat = 160 sts. When piece measures 22 1/2"/57.5 cm from beg, bind off. 

Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. For the turtleneck, with RS facing and circular needle, pick up and k approx 124 sts evenly around neck edge and work in Rib Pat for approx 10 1/4"/26 cm, then bind off sts loosely. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
