Size: Man's Medium

Materials:

Lana Grossa "Country" (44% Merino Wool, 43% Acrylic, 13% Super Kid Mohair, yardage = 100 m/50 g) 550 g brown/cognac (#8).

Knitting needles one pair each US 10 and 10 1/2 (6 and 7 mm), one circular needle size US 10 (6 mm). 

4 buttons (Art. 39551, #20, 1/2" (15 mm), from Union Knopf).

Rib Pat: K2, P2 Rib.

Rev St st: Purl on RS rows, knit on WS rows.

Cable/Diamond Pat over 60 sts: Foll the Chart.

Gauge:

Rev St st with US 10 1/2 (7 mm) needles: 12 sts and 17 rows = 4 x 4"/10 x 10 cm.

Cable/Diamond Pat = approx 15"/38 cm wide.

Back: With US 10 (6mm) needles cast on 66 sts. Work in Rib Pat for 2 1/2"/6 cm, inc 14 sts evenly across last WS row = 80 sts. Change to US 10 1/2 (7 mm) needles and cont as foll: 10 sts Rev St st, 60 sts Cable/Diamond Pat, 10 sts Rev St st. Work even until piece measures 16 1/2"/42 cm from beg. For armhole shaping bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 2 times, every 4th row 2 times = 68 sts. Work even until armhole measures 9 1/4"/23.5 cm. For shoulder shaping bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 7 sts at beg of next 4 rows. At the same time with 1 st shoulder dec, for neck shaping bind off center 24 sts and working both sides at once, bind off from each neck edge 2 sts once.

Front: Work same as Back until piece measures approx 16 1/2"/41.5 cm from beg (= the center diamond has been worked 3 times plus 2 rows). For the neck shaping, bind off the center 6 sts and working both sides at once, working the sts at the inside edge up to the Cable Pat in Rev St st. Work armhole and shoulder shaping same as Back. When armhole measures 7"/18 cm bind off from each neck edge 5 sts once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st every 2nd row 4 times.

Sleeves: With US 10 (6 mm) needles cast on 30 sts and work in Rib Pat for 2 1/2"/6 cm and inc 6 sts evenly on last WS row = 36 sts. Change to US 10 1/2 (7 mm) needles and work in Rev St st, inc 1 st each side on the 7th row above rib, then every 8th row 7 times = 52 sts. Work even until piece measures 18 1/2"/47 cm from beg. For the cap shaping bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then dec 1 st each side every 2nd row 10 times, bind off 2 sts sit beg of next 2 rows and bind off rem 14 sts.

Finishing: Sew shoulder seams. With RS facing and circular needle for the neckband, pick up and k84 sts evenly around neck edge and work in Rib Pat for approx 4 3/4"/12 cm. Bind off sts in rib. Fold band in half to WS and sew in place. For the right front placket band, pick up and k34 sts along right front placket and work in Rib Pat for 1 1/2"/4 cm. Bind off in rib. Work in same way along left-front placket, on the 4th row work 4 buttonholes (= yo, k2tog for each buttonhole) with the 1 st one at 3 sts from edge and the others space 6 sts apart. When band measures 1 1/2"/4 cm, bind off sts in rib. Set in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.
