Stylish scarf for men.

Measurements

Approx 12.5cm/5in x 162cm/63 3/4in, including edgings.

Materials

2 x 100g (190m) balls of Sirdar Wool Rich Aran (60% wool, 40% acrylic) in Flint (312) and 1 ball in each of Shingle (311), Finn (316), Cream (310) and Powder Blue (313).

Pair of 5mm (No. 6) knitting needles.

Yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are therefore approximate. Instructions in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.

Scarf (make 2 pieces alike)

Using 5mm needles and Flint, cast on 58 sts. Beginning with a k row, ss 2 rows. Stranding yarn not in use loosely across wrong side over not more than 3 or 4 sts at a time, work in pattern which is worked entirely in ss, beginning with a k row, so only the colour details are given.

1st row: 1 Shingle, [3 Flint, 1 Shingle] to last st, 1 Flint.

2nd row: [3 Shingle, 1 Flint] to last 2 sts, 2 Shingle.

3rd row: 1 Cream, [3 Powder Blue, 1 Cream] to last st, 1 Powder Blue.

4th row: [3 Cream, 1 Powder Blue] to last 2 sts, 2 Cream.

5th row: 1 Shingle, [3 Cream, 1 Shingle] to last st, 1 Cream.

6th row: [3 Shingle, 1 Cream] to last 2 sts, 2 Shingle. 

7th row: [1 Flint, 1 Powder Blue] to end.

8th to 13th rows: Work 6th row back to 1st row, in that reverse order.

14th to 16th rows: All Flint. 

17th row: 1 Finn, [3 Flint, 1 Finn] to last st, 1 Flint.

18th row: [3 Finn, 1 Flint] to last 2 sts, 2 Finn.

19th row: [1 Powder Blue, 1 Cream] to end.

20th row: As 18th row.

21st row: As 17th row.

22nd to 24th rows: All Flint. 

25th row: [1 Powder Blue, 1 Flint] to end.

26th row: [1 Powder Blue, 1 Shingle] to end. 

27th row: As 25th row.

28th to 30th rows: All Flint.

31st row: 1 Shingle, [3 Flint, 1 Shingle] to last st, 1 Flint.

32nd row: [1 Shingle, 1 Flint] to end.

33rd row: All Shingle. 

34th row: [1 Cream, 1 Shingle] to end.

35th row: [1 Cream, 1 Finn] to end.

36th to 39th rows: Work 34th row, back to 31st row, in that reverse order.

40th to 42nd rows: All Flint.

43rd row: 1 Powder Blue, [3 Flint, 1 Powder Blue] to last st, 1 Flint.

44th row: [3 Powder Blue, 1 Flint] to last 2 sts, 2 Powder Blue.

45th row: 1 Cream, [3 Powder Blue, 1 Cream] to last st, 1 Powder Blue.

46th row: [1 Finn, 1 Flint] to end.

47th to 49th rows: Work 45th row, back to 43rd row, in that reverse order.

50th to 52nd rows: All Flint.

53rd row: [1 Finn, 1 Flint] to end.

54th row: [1 Finn, 1 Cream] to end.

55th row: As 53rd row.

56th to 58th rows: All Flint.

These 58 rows form the pattern. Pattern another 114 rows. Leave sts on a spare needle.

To make up

With right sides together, having points of needles facing in the same direction, using a third needle and Flint, taking one st from each needle and working them together, cast off. Join seam.

Edgings (both alike)

Fold scarf in half lengthwise so that seam is at centre. With 5mm needles and Flint and working through both thicknesses, pick up and k28 sts along one end of scarf. K 4 rows. Cast off kwise.
