Rowan Handknit DK, 100% cotton (85m per 50g)

1 x 50g ball in 205 Linen (A)

Oddments in 252 Black (B)

Oddments in 215 Rosso (C)

Stitch holder

1 pair of 4.5mm knitting needles

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

20 sts and 28 rows to 10cm (4in) over st st on 4.5mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

PATTERN NOTES

This design uses the Intarsia method for the motifs. Charts are provided for all letters so that substitutions can be made.

BODY (WORKED IN ONE PIECE UNTIL END OF RIB)

Using 4.5mm needles and A, cast on 82 sts and work 8 rows in g-st for lower edge.

Row 1: K41, turn leaving rem sts on holder.

Work on these 41 sts for first side.

Row 2: K2, purl to last 2 sts, k2.

Rows 3 to 8: Work in st st, keeping a 2 st g-st border at the end of every row.

Rows 9 to 22: Work motif from Chart, placing it centrally. Read RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.

Second side

Transfer sts from holder to needle, then place sts from first side on holder with RS facing.

Work 21 rows in st st, keeping a 2 st g-st border at the end of every row.

Next row: P40, k1, transfer 41 sts from holder to needle, k1, p40 on these sts.

Next row (RS): K1, *k6, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (72 sts).

Next and every foll alt row (WS): Purl.

Next RS row: K1, *k5, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (62 sts).

Next RS row: K1, *k4, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (52 sts).

Next RS row: K1, *k3, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (42 sts).

Next RS row: K1, *k2, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (32 sts).

Next RS row: K1, *k1, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (22 sts).

Next RS row: K1, *k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (12 sts).

Loop yarn through rem sts and pull tight.

BOBBLE

Using 4.5mm needles and C, cast on 3 sts.

Row 1: Inc in first st, k1, inc in last st (5 sts).

Row 2: Pfb into first st, p1, pfb into nextst, p1, pfb into next st (8 sts).

Row 3: K2tog, k1, k2tog, k1, k2tog (5 sts).

Row 4: P2tog, p1, p2tog (3 sts).

Cast off.

Tie knot through last st and use running stitch to go round the edge of knitted circle. Pull tight to form bobble.

TO FINISH OFF

Join top and bottom seam.

Weave in ends.
