PATTERN NOTES
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Afghan is made from 238 Flower Motifs and 208 Filler Motifs.
Flower Motifs are worked using different colors. Refer to Placement Diagram and Color Key for colors to use when making Flower Motifs.
All Filler Motifs are worked in black.
Motifs are worked and joined using join-as-you-go technique.
Flower Motifs are crocheted and joined first; Filler Motifs are crocheted and joined to Flower Motifs.
Chain-4 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet and chain-1 unless otherwise stated.
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
Chain-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated.
Chain-2 at beginning of round counts as first half double crochet unless otherwise stated.
SPECIAL STITCHES

AFGHAN
First Flower Motif
Rnd 1 (RS): With flower color (see Placement Diagram and Pattern Notes), ch 4, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 4 (see Pattern Notes), [dc in ring, ch 1] 7 times, join (see Pattern Notes) in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (8 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), 2 dc in same st, ch 1, [3 dcin nextdc, ch 1] 7 times, join in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (24 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 3: With WS facing, join black in any ch-1 sp on rnd 1, ch 3, sc in ch-1 sp directly above on rnd 2, picot (see Special Stitches) in sc just made, dc in same spas join, [dc in next ch-1 on rnd 1, sc in ch-1 sp directly above on rnd 2, picot in sc just made, dc in same sp as last dc] 7 times, join in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (8 picots, 16 dc)
Next Flower Motif
Getting started: The working Motif is joined to each neighboring Motif by 2 picots. Hold neighboring Motifs (see Placement Diagram) with WS facing and sts matching.
Rnds 1 & 2: Rep rnds 1 and 2 of First Flower Motif.
Rnd 3 (joining rnd): With WS facing, join black to any ch-1 sp on rnd 1, ch 3, sc in ch-1 sp directly above in rnd 2, picot, dc in same sp as join, dc in next ch-1 sp on rnd 1, sc in ch-1 sp directly above in rnd 2, picot, dc in same sp as last dc, [dc in next ch-1 sp on rnd 1, sc in ch-1 sp directly above on rnd 2, picot join (see Special Stitches) in sc just made, dc in same sp as last dc] around until Motif is joined to all neighboring Motifs, [dc in next ch-1 sp on rnd 1, sc in ch-1 sp directly above in rnd 2, picot, dc in same sp as last dc] around, join in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off.
Make a total of 237 Next Flower Motifs, joining according to Placement Diagram.
Filler Motifs
Getting started: Filler Motifs are worked in the open sp between 4 joined Flower Motifs (see Placement Diagram).
Rnd 1: With black, ch 3, sl st in any picot join, ch 3, sil st in first ch of beg ch-3, [ch 3, sl st in next picot join, ch 3, sl st in first ch of beg ch- 3] 3 times. Fasten off.
Make a total of 208 Filler Motifs, joining according to Placement Diagram.
Edging
Rnd 1: Join black in first picot on corner Flower Motif on any side of Afghan, sc in same picot, ch 3, sc in next picot, *[ch 3, tr in next picot join, {ch 3, sc in next picot} twice] across to next corner, ch 6 (corner made)**, working along next side of Afghan, sc in next picot, ch 3, sc in next picot, rep from * around, ending last rep at **, join in first sc, turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, *3 dc in each ch-3 sp, dc in each sc, and dc in each tr across to corner, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in corner sp, rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-3, turn.
Rnd 3: Ch 2 (see Pattern Notes), *hdc in each dc across to corner, (hdc, ch 3, hdc) in ch-3 corner sp, rep from * around, join in top of beg ch-2,turn.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sc in each hdc across to corner, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-3 corner sp, rep from * around, join in first sc, fasten off.
