TO FINISH OFF
Join ear pieces
Place the ear pieces together with the inner piece facing you. Using 3mm hook and yarn A, join the inner and outer ear pieces by working 1 dc in each of the next 24 dc of both pieces at the same time, inserting the hook under both loops of each stitch. Sl st to next st and fasten off, leaving a long length. Weave in the short ends.
Head
Using a blunt-ended darning needle, weave the yarn through the last round of stitches of the head, then stuff firmly before drawing up the yarn to close the opening and stitch together to secure.
Face
Sew the circular-shaped top of the face using the long length of A, positioning it above the centre, towards the top of the head. Use the long length of yarn left after fastening off the muzzle to stitch it over the top of the face and towards the bottom of the head. Leave a small opening and push some stuffing through to shape the muzzle before stitching it down.
Embroider the eyelashes in straight stitch with three strands of black embroidery thread, then sew the beads on for the eyes. Alternatively, work a French knot for each eye. Embroider the nostrils in satin stitch, using three strands of embroidery thread and working just two or three stitches for each one.
Ears
With the long length of yarn left, sew the ears in place on each side of the head, stitching well in front and behind the ear to keep them firmly in place.
Body
Stuff the body firmly. Use a darning needle to weave the length of yarn left at the end through the last round of stitches, draw up to gather and work a few stitches over each other to fasten off.
Bib
Use the length of yarn left at the end of the bib to sew it to the front of the body with the narrow end at the neck. Stitch the head to the body, sewing all around the neck to join securely and prevent it from flopping about.
Arms/Legs
Stuff the arms and legs. Stitch the top end of each limb by squeezing it together and sewing the stitches from each side to form a straight seam. Sew the seam at the top of the arms in place along the neckline and stitch the legs to the lower end of the body.
Tail
Stuff the tail, keeping the curly shape. Join the seam at the top as for the arms and legs so it is straight, then stitch it vertically to the back of the monkey so it can swing from side to side.
