■ Bessie May Smile (100% extra fine merino, 50g/120m), 3 balls of Yarn A Cloud (3180), 1 ball of Yarn B Lichen (3060)

■ A 3mm (US C/2 or D/3) hook

MEASUREMENTS

Cosy measures 58cm (22 3/4in) in circumference at widest point and 19cm (7 1/2in) high without pompom

FPdtr Yrh twice, starting at front, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated st, complete as for dtr

Tr3tog (Yrh, insert hook in next st, yrh, pull up loop, yrh, pull through 2 loops) 3 times, yrh, pull through all loops on hook

FPdtr2tog (Yrh twice, starting at front, insert hook from front to back to front around post of next st, yrh and pull up loop, yrh and draw through 2 loops, yrh and draw through 2 loops) twice, yrh and draw through all loops on the hook

Row 1 (RS) Dc in second chain from hook and in each ch across to end, turn. [53 dc]

Row 2 Ch3 (counts as tr throughout), 1tr in each st to end, turn. [53 tr]

Row 3 Ch3, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, (FPtr around each of next 6 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, FPtr around next st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts) 3 times, FPtr around next 6 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, FPtr around next st, 1tr in last st, turn. [53 sts] 

Row 4 Ch3, BPtr around next st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, (BPtr around each of next 6 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, BPtr around next st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts) 3 times, BPtr around each of next 6 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, turn.

Row 5 Ch1 (does not count as st), dc in the first 5 sts, dc2tog, dc in the next 4 sts, dc2tog, dc in the next 5 sts, turn. [16 sts]

Row 6 (Dc2tog) 8 times. [8 sts] Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP

With RS tog, overstitch a seam starting at the bottom of the cosy. Work for 6cm then leave a gap of 8cm for spout/handle and cont seam to top. Rep on other side. 

COSY TOP

Rnd 1 Rejoin Yarn A in any st on either side of last row of Cosy, ch1 (does not count as st), dc in same dc and each dc around working around both sides of the Cosy, ss to first dc. [16 dc]

Rnd 2 Ch1 (does not count as st), (dc2tog) 8 times. [8 sts]

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Thread the tail onto a tapestry needle and insert through the last 8 sts. Pull tight to close and weave in end. 

POMPOM

Make a pompom using Yarn B, to measure approx 8cm in diameter. Sew to the top of the Cosy.
