The best kind of rose bouquet - it'll always look perky!
Materials
1 x 50g (130m) ball of DMC Petra 3 (100% cotton) in each of Jade (53814), Mid Pink (53803), Dark Pink (53805), Dark Red (5321) and Bright Red (5666).
Size 3.00 crochet hook; florist's wire (allow approx. 20 to 25cm for each stem); green florist's tape.
Note: Yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are therefore approx. Instructions in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.
To make
Using the ball of Jade, make the same number of stems and leaves. Using all shades, make a rose or bud for each stem.
Stem
Take a length (vary the lengths) of florist's wire and make small loop at each end to tuck in any sharp ends. Cover the stems with florist's tape. Attach Jade to loop at one end and with 3.00 hook, work dc around the entire length of wire. Fasten off taking the yarn through the second loop.
Rose
With 3.00 hook and shade of Red or Pink, make 26ch.
Foundation row: 1tr in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2tr), [1tr in next ch] to end, turn - 25 sts.
1st row: 3ch (counts as 1tr), [2tr in next st] to end, turn - 49 sts.
2nd row: As 1st row - 97 sts.
3rd row (right side): [1dc in next st, miss 1 st, 6tr in next st, miss 1 st] to last st, slst in last st. Fasten off. Attach end of rose to top of stem. With right side on outside, roll base of rose around stem to form rose shape. Catch end of last petal to petals above. Work a few stitches through base of all layers of rose and stem to secure in position.
Bud
With 3.00 hook and shade of Red or Pink, make 26ch.
Foundation row: 1tr in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2tr), [1tr in next ch] to end, turn - 25 sts.
1st row: 3ch (counts as 1tr), [2tr in next st] to end, turn - 49 sts.
2nd row: As 1st row - 97 sts.
3rd row (right side): [1dc in next st, miss 1 st, 6tr in next st, miss 1 st] to last st, slst in last st. Fasten off.
Attach end of bud to top of stem. With right side on outside, roll base of bud tightly around stem to form closed rose bud shape.
Catch end of bud to last layer. Work few stitches through base of all layers of bud and stem to secure in position.
Leaf
With 3.00 hook and Jade, make 11ch.
1st row: 1dc in 2nd ch from hook (counts as 1dc), [1dc in next ch] to end, turn - 10 sts.
2nd row: 1ch, 1dc in next dc, 1htr in next dc, 2tr in next dc, 1tr in next dc, 2dtr in next dc, 1dtr in next dc, 1dtr and 1tr in next dc, 1tr in next dc, 1htr in next dc, 1dc in last dc, 3ch, work along the other side of ch edge thus: 1dc in next ch, 1htr in next ch, 1tr in next ch, 1tr and 1dtr in next ch, 1dtr in next ch, 2dtr in next ch, 1tr in next ch, 2tr in next ch, 1htr in next ch, 1dc in last ch, slst in first dc. Fasten off.
Attach fastened off end to stem, then sew side of leaf along stem with a few stitches.
