Crochet Tea Cosy



Teatime is even nicer when your pot's wearing a cosy adorned with bright flowers.

Measurement

To fit a teapot 45cm circumference, excluding spout and handle.

Materials

2 x 50g (112m) balls of King Cole Merino Blend DK (100% wool) in Turquoise (18); 1 ball in each of Dusky Pink (94), Fuchsia (787) and Kingfisher (771).

Size 4.00 crochet hook.

Tension

17 stitches to 10cm, over double crochet, using 4.00 hook.

Note: Yarn amounts are based on average requirements and are therefore approximate. Instructions in square brackets are worked as stated after 2nd bracket.

Side panel (make 2)

With 4.00 hook and Turquoise, make 39ch.

Foundation row: 1dc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2dc), 1dc in each ch to end - 38dc.

1st row: 1ch (counts as 1dc), 1dc in each dc to last st, 1dc in 2nd of 2ch.

2nd row: 1ch, 1dc in each dc to last st, 1dc in 1ch.

Repeat 2nd row, 27 times more, or to required depth. 

1st eyelet row: 1ch, 1dc in each of next 2dc, [2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc in each of next 4dc] 5 times, 2ch, miss 2dc, 1dc in each of last 2dc, 1dc in 1ch.

2nd eyelet row: 1ch, 1dc in each of next 2dc, [2dc in 2-chsp, 1dc in each of next 4dc] 5 times, 2dc in next 2-chsp, 1dc in each of last 2dc, 1dc in 1ch.

Work 7 rows straight. Fasten off. 

Flower (make 2)

With 4.00 hook and Dusky Pink, make 4ch, join with slst into a ring.

1st round: 1ch, 7dc in ring, miss 1ch and slst in first dc - 7dc.

2nd round: Working in the front strand of each dc, [1slst, 2ch, 1tr, 2ch and 1slst all in next dc] 7 times, slst in slst of first round - 7 small petals. Fasten off. Turn work to the wrong side.

3rd round: Working in the remaining strand of each dc, join Fuchsia in any dc and work [4ch, 1dc in next dc] 6 times, 4ch, 1dc in first strand - 7 loops. Turn work to the right side and fold small petals to the front.

4th round: Work 1slst, 2ch, 4tr, 2ch, 1slst in each loop, then slst in first ch - 7 large petals. Fasten off.

Cord

With 4.00 hook and Kingfisher, make 60cm chain, slst in 2nd ch from hook, then in each ch to end. Fasten off.

To make up

Join side panels, leaving openings in the seams for the spout and handle. Thread the cord through the eyelets to emerge at centre front. Thread each end of the cord through the centre of a flower and knot firmly at the end.
