Pinwheel Coaster by Terry Day.

Scraps of size 10 crochet cotton in several colors are all it takes to create this pretty pinwheel-style coaster.

FINISHED MEASUREMENT

5.5 inches in diameter

MATERIALS

• Size 10 crochet cotton: 8 yds white 5 yds each pink, peach, yellow, mint green, lavender and light blue

• Size B/1/2.25mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

• Starch

GAUGE

With 2 strands held tog: 6 sc = 1 inch;

6 sc rows = 1 inch

PATTERN NOTES

Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

Hold 2 strands of crochet cotton together unless otherwise stated.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

COASTER

DIAMOND

Make 1 each pink, peach, yellow, mint green, lavender & light blue.

Row 1: Holding 2 strands of crochet cotton tog (see Pattern Notes), ch 2, sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn. (1 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in sc, turn. (2 sc)

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc, turn. (4 sc)

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn. (6 sc)

Row 6: Rep row 4.

Row 7: Rep row 5. (8 sc)

Rows 8 & 9: Rep row 4.

Row 10: Ch 1, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sc, sc in each sc across to last 2 sc, sc dec in last 2 sc, turn. (6 sc)

Row 11: Rep row 4.

Row 12: Rep row 10. (4 sc)

Row 13: Rep row 4.

Row 14: Ch 1, [sc dec in next 2 sc] twice, turn. (2 sc)

Row 15: Rep row 4.

Row 16: Ch 1, sc dec in next 2 sc. Fasten off. (1 sc)

ASSEMBLY

Place Diamonds so points meet in center using photo as a guide for color placement or placing as desired. With tapestry needle and desired color, sew Diamonds tog.

EDGING

Join (see Pattern Notes) 1 strand of white at junction of 2 joined Diamonds, [ch 3, sl st in end of next row] around entire outer edge, working (sl st, ch 3, sl st) in tip of each Diamond, join in beg sl st. Fasten off.

Starch lightly and press.
