• Size 7/1.65mm steel crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
• Tapestry needle
• Fiberfill
• Stitch marker
• Pencil with clean eraser

9 sc = 1 inch

Do not join rounds unless otherwise stated. Use stitch marker to mark rounds. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
ELEPHANT
HEAD
Rnd 1: Beg at top with hot pink, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join (see Pattern Notes). (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: [Sc in each of next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (28 sc)
Rnd 6: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 7: [Sc in each of next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (30 sc)
Rnds 8-13: Rep rnd 6. At the end of last rnd, stuff Head with fiberfill.
Rnd 14: [Sc in each of next 3 sts, sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 15: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Leaving 12-inch length, fasten off. (18 sc)
Finish stuffing Head.
BODY
Rnd 1: Beg in front with hot pink, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: [2 sc in each st] around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (32 sc)
Rnds 6-20: [Sc in each st] around. At end of last rnd, stuff Body with fiberfill, continue to stuff as work progresses.
Rnd 21: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 22: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 23: [Sc in next st, sc dec in next 2 sts] around. (12 sc) Finish stuffing Body.
Rnd 24: [Sc dec in next 2 sts] around, join in beg sc. Leaving long end, fasten off. (6 sc)
Weave long end through top of sts, pull to close. Secure end. Using 12-inch end, sew Head to Body as shown in photo.
TRUNK
Rnd 1: Beg at tip with hot pink, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (9 sc)
Rnds 3 & 4: Sc in each st around.
Rnd 5: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (12 sc)
Rnds 6-8: Sc in each of first 5 sts, hdc in each of last 7 sts.
Rnd 9: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 10: [Sc in each st] around.
Rnd 11: [Sc in each of next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 12: [Sc in each st] around, join in beg sc. Leaving 10-inch length, fasten off. Stuff Trunk with fiberfill, using eraser end of pencil to push fiberfill down. Using 10-inch length, sew Trunk to Head as shown in photo.
FINISHING
With black, embroider satin stitch (see illustration) eyes on Head above Trunk as shown in photo.
With black, embroider straight stitch (see illustration) mouth under Trunk as shown in photo.
EAR
Make 2.
Row 1: With hot pink, leaving 10-inch length at beg, ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (9 sc)
Rows 2 & 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, [sc in each st] across with 2 sc in last st, turn. (13 sc)
Rows 4-7: Ch 1, [sc in each sc] across, turn.
Row 8: Ch 1, sk first st, sc dec in next 2 sts, sc in each of next 7 sts, sk next st, sc dec in next 2 sts. Fasten off.
Using 10-inch beg length, sew row 1 of each Ear to rnds 5-14 at sides of Head as shown in photo.
LEG
Make 4.
Rnd 1: Beg at foot with hot pink, ch 2, 7 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join. (7 sc)
Rnd 2: [2 sc in each st] around. (14 sc)
Rnd 3: [Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (21 sc)
Rnd 4: [Sc in each sc] around.
Rnd 5: [Sc dec in next 2 sts] 3 times, sc in each of next 15 sts. (18 sc)
Rnds 6-13: [Sc in each sc] around. At the end of last rnd, leaving 10-inch length, fasten off.
Stuff Legs with fiberfill. Sew to bottom of Body as shown in photo.
TAIL
With hot pink, ch 7. Fasten off.
Cut 2 strands hot pink, each 4 inches long. Fold strands in half. Insert hook in last ch, draw fold through, draw cut ends of strands through fold. Pull to tighten. Trim strands to 1-inch in length.
Sew Tail to back of Body.
