POT HOLDER

MOTIF

Make 8.

Note: Change color (see Stitch Guide) for each rnd, following chart.

Rnd 1: Ch 4, 13 dc in 4th ch from hook (3 sk chs count as first dc), join (see Pattern Notes) in 4th ch of beg ch-4. (14 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in same st as beg ch-3, 2 dc in each rem dc, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (28 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in next st, [2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc] around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (42 dc)

Rnd 4 (start hexagon): Ch 4 (see Pattern Notes), 2 dc in next dc, *dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, ending with dc in joining st from previous rnd, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (54 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

Note: If Motif begins to cup, add 1 dc per side. Add as needed, especially if using thinner thread for outer rnds. All will work out as long as Motifs end with same number of dc sts per side in last rnd.

Rnd 5: Ch 4, sk ch-1 sp, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in each of next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, ending with dc in joining st from previous rnd, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (66 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 6: Ch 4, sk ch-1 sp, 2 dc in next dc, *dc in each of next 9 dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 1, sk ch-1 sp, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, ending with dc in joining st from previous rnd, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (78 dc, 6 ch-1 sps)

HANGER

Join light green in top center (No. 1) Motif into post (see Stitch Guide) of any dc in rnd 2, ch 10, si st around post of dc on opposite side of rnd 2, ch 1, turn, make 20 sc in ch-10 sp, si st around post of same dc as joining. Fasten off.

JOINING MOTIFS

Note: Join Motifs with light green, working with RS facing out. Sc sts will be on the surface, adding a nice texture.

Join each of 6 Motifs (Nos. 2-7) to top center (No. 1) Motif, 1 at a time as follows:

With WS tog, working sc through both thicknesses with light green, starting at ch-1 sp, join with sc, sc in next 13 dc (or adjusted number if changed) and in next ch-1 sp, drop first Motif and add 2nd Motif, crochet it to center Motif in same manner; *sc in ch-1 sp (this is the 2nd sc in that ch-sp for the center Motif), sc in each of next 13 dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, drop 2nd Motif, and pick up 3rd motif and rep same sts. When all 6 Motifs are joined to top center Motif, do not fasten off. Sc down the seam between 6th and first Motif.

*Join both with sc in [ch-1 sp, 13 dc, next ch-1 sp, next 13 dc, and next ch-1 sp]. Crochet work will start to cup or fold over when working the 2nd set of 13 dc. Fasten off. Join light green to ch-1 of first and 2nd Motif, rep from * around. Then rep until Motifs 2-7 are joined to each other. Lastly, join the bottom center (No. 8) Motif to each of the 6 joined Motifs, just like was done with the top center (No. 1) Motif. Fasten off. Lay flat as in picture, or hang from center hanger with the lantern "popped" open.
