Four elongated triangular flaps originating at the sides and meeting at the center front create a modern, artistic design on this striking pillow.

FINISHED SIZE: 18 inches square

MATERIALS: Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight acrylic yarn (7 oz/364 yds/198g per skein): 2 skeins #376 burgundy each #400 grey heather 1 skein #311 white

Size l/9/5.5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

PATTERN NOTES

Chain-3 at beginning of row counts as first double crochet unless otherwise stated. Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

PILLOW

Square

Make 1 each burgundy for front & grey heather for back.

Getting started: With grey heather, make back first.

Row 1: Ch 62, dc in 4th ch from hook (first 2 chs count as first dc), dc in each ch across, turn. (60 dc)

Rows 2-34: Ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), dc in each st across, turn. At end of last row on back, fasten off. At end of last row on front, turn.

Joining rnd: To evenly sp sts of joining rnd, use safety pins to mark 15th dc, 30th dc and 45th dcattop ofrow 34and 15th ch, 39th ch and 45th ch at bottom edge of row 1 of each Square, place back Square behind front Square having its pins at ends of row (sides) of front Square, keeping pins in same spot, insert pins through both layers to mark st count placement, working through both thicknesses, ch 1, *evenly sp 15 sc across to first pin, repin safety pin in last st just worked, [evenly sp 15 sc across to next pin, repin safety pin to last st worked] twice, evenly sp 15 sc across to first corner, 2 sc in same st for corner, rep from * 3 times inserting pillow insert before closing, join (see Pattern Notes) in beg sc. Fasten off. (248 sc total) Leave safety pins until final assembly.

Triangle

Make 4.

Row 1: With grey heather, ch 35, dc in 4th ch from hook (first 3 chs count as first dc) and in each ch across, turn. (33 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3, dc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 3 sts, dc in each st across to last 3 sts, dc dec in last 3 sts, turn. (29 dc)

Rows 3 & 4: Ch 3, dc dec in next 2 sts, dc in each st across, ending with dc dec in last 2 sts, turn. (25 dc at end of last row)

Row 5: Rep row 2. (21 dc)

Row 6: Rep row 3. (19 dc)

Row 7: Rep row 2. (15 dc)

Rows 8-11: Rep row 3. (7 dc at end of last row)

Rows 12-15: Ch 3, sc in each st across, working dc dec in center 2 sts, turn. (3 dc at end of last row)

Row 16: Ch 3, dc dec in last 2 sts. Fasten off. (2 dc)

Edging

Row 1: Working in ends of rows, join grey heather in end of row 1 on Triangle, ch 1, sc in same row, evenly sp 32 sc across to tip, ch 1, sc in same row on opposite side, evenly sp 32 sc across to bottom of Triangle. Fasten off. (66 dc)

Row 2: Join white in back lp (see Stitch Guide) of first st, ch 3, working in back lps, dc in same st as beg ch-3, dc in each st across to ch-1 at tip, (dc, tr, dc) in back lp of ch-1, dc in back lp of each stacross, ending with 2 dc in last st. Fasten off. (77 sts)

Assembly

Remove center safety pin on all 4 sides of Pillow and move each rem pin over 4 sts toward pillow corners on all 4 sides of Pillow. Pins mark center 38 sts on each side of Pillow. Center opposite side of beg ch of row 1 at bottom edge of any triangle WS up between pins onto 1 side edge of Pillow back, working through both thicknesses from front side of Pillow, join white in back lp only of first st at pin and last st of Triangle at end of row 2, sc in back lp of next st on Pillow and through ch at base of last dc on Triangle at end of row 2, insert hook through back lp only of next st on Pillow and though base of last dc of Triangle finishing row 2, yo, pull up white lp, yo with grey heather and pull through both lps on hook, fasten off white, [sc in back lps of Pillow edge and through starting ch on opposite side of row 1 on Triangle] across, to row 2 of Edging, changing to white in last st, sc in back lp only of next st of Pillow and through 2nd ch of beg ch-3, sl st in back lp only of last st at pin on Pillow and in top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. Rep with rem Triangles. Bring tips of Triangles to center front of Pillow and, using 1 strand of white, sew tips tog.

White Button

With white, ch 5, 15 tr in 5th ch from hook (first 4 chs count at first tr), join in 5th ch of beg ch-5. Fasten off. (16 tr) Layer black button in center of White Button. Using burgundy, sew buttons to Triangle tips in center of Pillow as shown in photo.
