TENSION

27 sts and 34 rows to 10cm (4in) measured over st st using 3mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

BACK

*Left leg

Using A and 3mm needles cast on 31 [35:37:39] sts.

Row 1 (RS): *k1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 2: *p1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1.

These 2 rows form 1/1 rib, rep until work measures 2cm (.75in) (8 rows).

Starting with a knit row cont in st st, increasing 1 statthe beg of 1st row for sizes 1 mth and 12 mths only. 32[35:37:40] sts.

When work measures 12[14:16:18]cm (4.75[5.5:6.25:7]in) (42[48:56:62] rows) total, ending on a WS row leave the sts on a spare needle.

Right leg

Using A and 3mm needles cast on 31(35:37:39] sts.

Work in 1/1 rib as for Left leg until work measures 2cm (.75in) (8 rows).

Starting with a knit row cont in st st, increasing 1 statthe beg of 1st row for sizes 1 mth and 12 mths only. 32[35:37:40] sts.

Cont in rib patt as set until work measures 12[13:14:15]cm (4.75:5:5.5:6]in) total.

Cast off.

CROTCH BORDERS (MAKE 2 ALIKE)

Using A and 3mm needles cast on 7 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, (p1, k1) 2 times, k1.

Row 2: P2, (k1, p1) 2 times, p1.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 until work measures 25[29:33:37]cm (10[11.25:13:14.5]in). Cast off.

TO FINISH OFF

Sew the side seams of the dungarees (= red lines on the diagram) leaving 6cm (2.25in) open at the top before the rib.

Sew one end of each strap to the edge of the Back (= blue lines on the diagram). Using back stitch sew the borders along each edge of the crotch.

Sew 1 button onto each top corner of the bib (see position on diagram). Sew 1 button on to each back edge of rib opposite the buttonholes.

Sew 7 press studs at regular intervals along the crotch.

To gather the bottom edges of the dungarees, slip the elastic thread through the 1/1 rib on each leg.

Secure & weave in all ends.
