MATERIALS

1 skein of Softee Baby from Bernat (100% acrylic; 5 oz/140 g) in color 02000 White. (2)

Size F-5 [3.75 mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge

Four 18" lengths of 3/8"-wide satin ribbon

2 ribbon flowers with pearls, 1" diameter (available ot most croft and fabric stores]

Tapestry needle

Sewing needle and matching thread

GAUGE

18 dc and 10 rows = 4"

PATTERN STITCH

V-st: (dc, ch 1, dc) in next st.

BONNET

Crown

Ch 56 (60).

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook ond in each rem ch-55 (59) sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sk next sc; in next sc, work V-st in next sc, *sk next sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc, work V-st in next sc; rep from * across—14 (15) V-sts, Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, *sc in next V-st, V-st in next sc; rep from * across. Turn.

Rep row 3 until piece measures 4 (5)", ending with RS row. Fasten off.

Back

Hold piece with RS facing you, and with beg ch at top; join in 19th unused lp of beg ch.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, working in unused lps, sc in same lp, sk next lp, work V-st in next lp, *sk next lp, sc in next lp, sk next lp, work V-st in next lp; rep from * 3 (4) times-5 (6) V-sts. Turn, leaving rem lps unworked.

Row 2: Ch 1, *sc in next V-st, work V-st in next sc; rep from * across. Turn.

Rep row 2 until back measures 4". Fasten off.

Referring to diagram, sew side edges of back to crown.

Edging

Hold bonnet with RS facing you; join in first sc on last row of crown, ch 4 (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in same sc, sc in next V-st, *(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1 dc) in next sc, sc in next V-st; rep from * 12(13] times, working along lower edge of bonnet in edge of dc rows only, **(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next V-st, sc in next V-st; rep from ** across; join in 3rd ch of beg eh 4. Fasten off.

Using sewing needle and thread, sew one length of ribbon to each side of bonnet. Sew flower on top of each ribbon end attached to bonnet.

BOOTIES (MAKE 2)

Rnd 1 (RS): 2 dc in 4th ch from hook (beg 3 sk chs count as a dc), dc in next 11 (13) chs, work 7 dc in next ch; working on opposite side in unused lps of beg ch, dc in next 11 (13) lps, 2 dc in next lp; join in top of beg 3 sk chs-34 (38) dc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sp, (2 sc in next dc) twice, sc in next dc, hdc in next 6 (8) dc, dc in next 4 dc, (2 dc in next dc) 7 times, dc in next 4 dc, hdc in next 6(8) dc, sc in next dc, (2 sc in next dc) twice; join in BL of first sc—45 (49} sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 3 [counts as a dc); working in BLs only, dc in each at; join in top of beg ch 3.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first 15 (17) dc, sc2tog, hdc2tog, dc2tog, (tr2tog) twice, dc2tog, hdc2tog, sc2tog, sc in next 14 (16] sts; join in first sc—37 (41) sts.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in first 14 (16) sts, hdc2tog, (dc2tog) 3 times, hdc2fog, sc in next 13 (15) sts; join in first sc-32 (36) sts.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, sc in each st; join in first sc.

Rnd 7: Ch 4 (counts os a dc and ch-1 sp on this and following rnds), sk next sc, *dc in next sc, ch 1, sk next sc; rep from * around; join in 3rd ch of beg ch 4.

Rnd 8: Ch 1, sc in same sp, sc in each ch i sp and in each dc; join in first sc.

Rnd 9: Ch 4, dc in same sc-beg V-st made; sk next sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next sc-V-st made; sk next sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc; rep from * around; join in 3rd ch of beg ch 4-16 (18) V-sts.

Rnd 10: Sl st in first ch-1 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp, work V-st in next sc, *sc in next V-st, work V-st in next sc; rep from * around; join in first sc.
