SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

skp - slip 1 stitch, knit 1 stitch, pass the slipped stitch over;

tbl - through back of loops;

W&T = wrap and turn - purl to the stitch that needs to be wrapped; move the working yarn between the needles to the back; slip the stitch to be wrapped to the right hand needle; return the working yarn to its original position (this is what creates the wrap); slip the stitch back to the left hand needle and turn work. When working across the wrapped stitch on the next WS row make sure to lift the wrap up and work the wrap and the stitch together.

BACK

With 3.75mm needles, cast on 65 sts.

Row 1: RS - K to last 5 sts, p1, (k1, p1) twice.

Row 2: WS - K1, (p1, k1) twice; p to end.

Row 3: RS - K to last 4 sts, (p1, k1) twice.

Row 4: WS - (P1, k1) twice; p to end.

Begin Short Row Shaping

Row 1: RS - K to last 5 sts, p1, (k1, p1) twice.

Row 2: WS - K1, (p1, k1) twice; p to last 13 sts, W&T.

Row 3: RS - K to last 4 sts, (p1, k1) twice.

Row 4: WS - (P1, k1) twice; p to end (ensure to work the wrapped st as given above).

Rep these last 4 rows until piece measures 42 (44.5, 47, 50, 52.5, 55) cm from beg, end with a row 4, ensure to take measures along the short edge of work (= beg of RS rows).

Next Row: RS - K to last 5 sts, p1, (k1, p1) twice.

Next Row: WS - K1, (p1, k1) twice; p to end.

Mark the centre of work at shorter edge (beg of RS rows).

Leave on spare needle.

UPPER SECTION

With 3.75mm needles, cast on 109 (115, 121, 129, 135, 141) sts.

Stocking st 8 rows.

Next Row: RS - K2, skp, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2.

Next Row: WS - P.

Stocking st 4 rows.

Next Row: RS - K2, skp, k to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2. 105 (111, 117, 125, 131, 137) sts.

Join lower and upper sections

Next Row: RS - With RS facing of lower section sts behind upper section sts, k the first st of upper section together with first st of lower section, then k the 2nd st of upper section together with 2nd st of lower section; rep in this manner to end of row. 105 (111, 117, 125, 131, 137) sts.

Cont in Stocking st until piece measures 34cm from beg, end with a WS row.

Shape Armholes
