YOU WILL NEED

King Cole Masham Misty DK 100% British breed wool (approx 105m per 50g) 10[11:12:12:13:14] x 50g balls 278 Heather

1 pair each 3.25mm and 4mm needles

2 stitch holders

Cable needle

Row counter

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over st st using 4mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

BACK

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 123[135:148:161:177:191] sts. Beg with a k row work 6 rows in st st. Change to 4mm needles and beg p row again for RS of Back work in rev st st until Back meas 14cm (5.5in), allowing for lower edge to roll up, and ending after a p row. Change to 3.25mm needles

Next row (WS): P7[7:2:3:7:5], (p2tog, p7[8:9:9:7:7]), to last 8[8:3:4:8:6] sts, p2tog, p to end. 110[122:134:146:158:170] sts.

Change to 4mm needles and Honeycomb Cable patt as folls:

Row 1 (RS): P4, (T3B, T3F, p6) to last 10 sts, T3B, T3F, p4.

Rows 2, 4 and 6: Work across row knitting all k sts and purling all p sts as they present, thus Row 2 will be: K4, (p2, k2, p2, k6) to last 10 sts, p2, k2, p2, k4.

Row 3: P3, (T3B, p2, T3F, p4) to last 11 sts, T3B, p2, T3F, p3.

Row 5: P1, (C2RB, p4, C2RF) to last st, p1.

Row 7: Purl. 

Row 8: Knit.

Row 9: P1, (T3F, p6, T3B) to last st, p1.

Rows 10, 12 and 14: Work across row knitting all k sts and purling all p sts as they present.

Row 11: P2, (T3F, p4, T3B, p2) to end.

Row 13: P3, (C2RF, C2RB, P4) to last 11 sts, C2RF, C2RB, p3.

Rows 15 and 16: As Rows 7 and 8.

These 16 rows form patt. Cont in patt until work meas 54[54:56:56:57:57]cm (21.25[21.25:22:22:22.5:22.5]in) from beg, measured through centre of work and ending after a WS row. 

Shape shoulders

Cast off 6[7:7:8:9:10] sts at beg of next 10 rows. 50[52:64:66:68:70] sts. Cast off 6[6:6:10:10:10] sts at beg of next row. 44[46:48:56:58:60] sts.

Next row: Cast off 6[6:6:10:10:10] sts, work to end of row dec 8[8:8:11:11:11] sts evenly across. Slip rem 30[32:34:35:37:39] sts on a stitch holder.

FRONT

Work as Back until Front meas 14[14:16:16:18:18] rows less than Back, up to start of shoulder shaping, thus ending after a WS row.

Shape neck

Next row: Work across 41[46:51:55:60:65] sts, turn, cont on this group of sts for left half of neck. Work 5 rows dec 1 st at neck edge on every row. 36[41:46:50:55:60] sts. Work 8[8:10:10:12:12] rows straight, thus ending at side edge.

Shape shoulder

Cast off 6[7:8:8:9:10] sts at beg of next row and 4 foll alt rows. 6[6:6:10:10:10] sts. Work 1 row. Cast off rem sts. With RS facing, sl next 28[30:32:36:38:40] sts on a length of yarn and leave. Rejoin yarn neatly to rem sts and work to end of row. Complete as left half of neck but working 1 more row straight before shaping neck.

SLEEVES

Using 3.25mm needles, cast on 43[45:45:47:49:49] sts. Beg with a k row work 6 rows in st st. Change to 4mm needles and beg p row again for RS of Sleeve work in rev st st shaping Sleeve by inc 1 st at each end of 3rd row, then on every foll 8th[8th:6th:6th:4th:4th] row until there are 65[71:73:61:57:75] sts, then on every foll 10th[8th:8th:6th:6th:6th] row until there are 73[77:83:89:93:99] sts. Cont straight until Sleeve meas 46[46:46:47:47:47]cm (18[18:18:18.5:18.5:18.5]cm) at centre, or desired length, ending after a p row. Cast off loosely knitways.

NECKBAND

First join left shoulder. Using 3.25mm needles, RS facing, k across 30[32:34:35:37:39] sts from Back neck holder, k up 21[21:22:22:24:24] sts evenly down left side of neck, k across 28[30:32:36:38:40] front sts dec 6[6:6:8:8:8] sts evenly across, k up 21[21:22:22:24:24] sts evenly up right front neck. 94[98:104:107:115:119] sts. Beg p row work 6 rows in rev st st. Cast off.

TO FINISH OFF

Press peplum and Sleeves only on WS, using a warm iron over a damp cloth, or with a steam iron set on wool. Join right shoulder and Neckband. Stitch cast-off edges of Sleeves to side edges of Back and Front allowing approx 18[19:20:22:23:24]cm (7[7.5:8:8.75:9:9.5]in) for armhole drop. Join side and Sleeve seams.
