Maisie Poncho

Maisie Poncho

Maisie by Anniken Allis

"This on-trend poncho is perfect for layering on chilly spring days," says designer Anniken Allis. It's constructed from two knitted rectangles, joined along the shoulders and top of arms, with buttons at the lower edge. By knitting it sideways, the self-striping yarn from Noro will create vertical stripes, which emphasise the rippling lace pattern. Noro's Shiro yarn is a wonderfully tactile blend of wool, cashmere and silk, and comes in both subtle and bold colourways.

PATTERN NOTES

ONE-ROW BUTTONHOLE

Work to the place where you need to start the buttonhole.

1. Take the yarn to the front between the needles, slip one stitch purlwise to the right needle, take the yarn to the back between the needles.

2. *Slip the next stitch purlwise and pass the first slipped stitch over. Repeat from * until you have cast off required number of sts (or more if you prefer a larger buttonhole). Slip the stitch remaining on the right needle to the left and turn the work. The working yarn is now at the beginning of the left needle.

3. With WS facing, cable cast on the number of stitches you cast off plus one stitch (if you cast off 3, then cast on 4). Before placing the last stitch on the left needle bring the yarn to the front between the needles, place the stitch on the left needle and turn the work.

4. Slip the first stitch on the left needle knitwise and pass the last cast-on stitch over it.

The buttonhole is now complete and the total stitch count has not been altered.
