MATERIALS

• Berroco Vintage medium (worsted) weight acrylic/wool/nylon yarn (3 1/2 oz/217 yds/ 100g per hank):

1 hank #5106 smoke

• Berroco Blackstone Tweed medium (worsted) weight wool/mohair/angora yarn (1 3/4 oz/130 yds/50g per ball):

1 ball #2646 saltwater

• Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

• Tapestry needle

• Straight pins

• Stitch marker

GAUGE

Crown: Rnds 1-5 = 3 1/2 inches

Brim: 7 sc and 7 dc = 4 inches; 14 rows = 4 inches

PATTERN NOTES

Work in continuous rounds; do not turn or join unless otherwise stated.

Mark first stitch of round.

Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.

CLOCHE

Crown

Rnd 1: With smoke, ch 3, 10 hdc in first ch, do not join (see Pattern Notes), place marker (see Pattern Notes). (10 hdc)

Rnd 2: 2 hdc in each hdc around. (20 hdc)

Rnd 3: [2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in next hdc] around. (30 hdc)

Rnd 4: [2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in each of next 2 hdc] around. (40 hdc)

Rnd 5: [2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in each of next 3 hdc] around. (50hdc)

Rnd 6: [2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in each of next 4 hdc] around. (60 hdc)

Rnd 7: Hdc in each hdc around.

Rnd 8: [2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in each of next 5 hdc] around. (70 hdc)

Rnd 9: Hdc in each hdc around.

Rnd 10: [2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in each of next 6 hdc] around. (80 hdc)

Brim

Row 1 (RS): With smoke, ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook, [dc in next ch, sc in next ch] across to last ch, dc in last ch, turn. (7sc, 7 dc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first st, [dc in next st, sc in next st] across to last st, dc in last st, turn.

Rows 3-73: Rep row 2. Leaving long end for sewing, fasten off at end of last row.

With RS tog, using long end, sew row 1 to row 73 on WS.

With RS tog, pin side edge of Brim to rnd 13 of Crown. With WS facing and working through both thicknesses, join (see Pattern Notes) smoke in seam, evenly si st around to join Brim to Crown. Fasten off.

Cuff

Getting started: With WS facing and working in row ends, join salt water at back seam of Brim, 72 sc evenly along edge of Brim, turn.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first st, [dc in next st, sc in next st] around to last st, dc in last st, turn. (36 sc, 36 dc)

Rows 2-8: Rep row 1. Leaving long end for sewing, fasten off at end of last row. (36 sc, 36 dc)

Using long end, sew seam at back.

Edging

Rnd 1: With RS facing, join salt water in any st on Cuff, reverse st (see Stitch Guide) in each st around, join in first st. Fasten off.
