To everything there is a season, but when you're not quite sure what the weather's going to be you need something you can throw over anything you happen to be wearing - and this beautiful textured kimono is just the thing.

To fit: UK size 8-10(12-14:16-18]

81-86(91-97:102-107]cm (32-34[36-38:40-42]in)

Actual measurement: 107[118:129]cm (42 1/4[46 1/2:51]in)

Length to back neck: 68[70:72]cm (27[27 1/2:28 1/2]in)

Sleeve length: 33cm (13in)

Figures in square brackets refer to larger sizes: where there is only one set of figures this applies to all sizes.

YOU WILL NEED

Debbie Bliss Fine Donegal 95% wool, 5% cashmere (approx 380m per 100g)

4(4:5] x 100g balls 06 Terracotta (A)

Debbie Bliss Angel 76% mohair, 24% silk (approx 200m per 25g)

7(8:8] x 25g balls 035 Terracotta (B)

Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 100% wool (approx 105m per 50g)

1(2:2] x 50g balls 05 Chocolate (C)

1 pair each 3.25mm and 4mm needles

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

22 sts and 32 rows to 10cm over patt using 4mm needles with one strand of A and B held together.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

PATTERN NOTES

Use one strand each of A and B held together.

BACK

With 3.25mm needles and one strand of C only, cast on 119(131:143] sts.

Knit 5 rows.

Break C.

Change to 4mm needles and, using one strand each of A and B, work in patt as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K1, (p1, k1) to end.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

These 2 rows form patt and are repeated. Work straight until Back meas 65[67:70]cm (25 3/4[26 1/2:27 1/2]in) from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

Shape upper arms

Cast off 6(7:8] sts at beg of next 10 rows.

59(61:63] sts.

Shape shoulders

Cast off 10 sts at beg of next 2 rows.

39(41:43] sts.

Break A and B.

Change to 3.25mm needles and join in C. Knit 5 rows. Cast off.

LEFT FRONT

With 3.25mm needles and one strand of C only, cast on 59(65:71] sts.

Knit 5 rows.

Break C.

Change to 4mm needles, and, using one strand each of A and B, work in patt as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K1, (p1, k1) to end.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

These 2 rows form patt.

Work straight until 60(64:68] rows fewer have been worked than on Back to upper arm shaping.**

Shape front neck

Next row: Patt to last 2 sts, work 2tog.

Patt 3 rows.

Rep last 4 rows 17(18:19] more times and first row again. 40(45:50] sts.

Work 5 rows straight, ending at armhole edge.

Shape upper arm

Cast off 6(7:8] sts at beg of next and 4 foll RS rows.

Work 1 row.

Shape shoulder

Cast off rem 10 sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as Left Front to **.

Shape front neck

Next row: Work 2 tog, patt to end.

Patt 3 rows.

Rep last 4 rows 17(18:19] times and first row again. 40(45:50] sts.

Work 6 rows straight, ending at armhole edge.

Shape upper arm

Cast off 6(7:8] sts at beg of next and 4 foll WS rows.

Work 1 row.

Shape shoulder

Cast off rem 10 sts.

SLEEVES (MAKE 2)

With 3.25mm needles and one strand of C only, cast on 89(95:101] sts.

Knit 5 rows.

Break C.

Change to 4mm needles and, using one strand each of A and B, work in patt as folls:

Row 1 (RS): K1, (p1, k1) to end.

Row 2: Knit.

These 2 rows form patt.

Work a further 2 rows.

Inc row 1: Inc in first st, patt to end.

Patt 3 rows.

Inc row 2: Patt to last 2 sts, inc in next st, patt 1.

Patt 3 rows.

Rep last 8 rows 10 times. 111(117:123] sts.

Cont straight until Sleeve meas 33cm (13in) from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row. Cast off.

POCKETS (MAKE 2)

With 4mm needles and one strand each of A and B, cast on 35(37:39] sts.

Row 1 (RS): K1, (p1, k1) to end.

Row 2 (WS): Knit.

These 2 rows form patt.

Work straight until Pocket meas 16[17:18]cm (6 1/2[6 3/4:7]in) from cast-on edge, ending with a WS row.

Break A and B.

Join in C and change to 3.25mm needles. Knit 3 rows. Cast off.

LEFT FRONT EDGING

With RS facing, using 3.25mm needles and C and starting at the neck edge, pick up and k62[65:68] sts down to beg of neck shaping, then 97(98:99] sts down to cast-on edge. Knit 4 rows. Cast off.

RIGHT FRONT EDGING

With RS facing, using 3.25mm needles and C and starting at the cast-on edge, pick up and k97[98:99] sts up to beg of neck shaping, then 62(65:68] sts up to shoulder. Knit 4 rows. Cast off.

TO FINISH

Join shoulder seams. Matching centre of Sleeve to shoulder seam, sew on Sleeves. Join side and Sleeve seams. Sew on Pockets.

Diagram
