Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK 100% cotton (approx 92m per 50g)

7[8:8:9:9:9] x 50g balls 3657 Busy Lizzie

1 pair each 3.25mm and 4mm needles

2 stitch holders

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

22 sts and 28 rows to 10cm over st st using 4mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

FRONT

With 3.25mm needles cast on 120[134:148:162:176:190] sts.

Knit 4 rows.

Change to 4mm needles.

Next row (WS): P10, (p2tog, p12) 7[8:9:10:11:12] times, p2tog, p10.

112[125:138:151:164:177] sts.

Next row (on which sts are made for ladders): K17, (yf, k13) 6[7:8:9:10:11] times, yf, k17. 119[133:147:161:175:189] sts.

Next row: Purl.

Work in patt:

Row 1 (RS): K10, (yf, skpo, k12) 7[8:9:10:11:12] times, yf, skpo, k9.

Row 2 and every alt row: Purl.

Row 3: K8, (k2tog, yf, k1, yf, skpo, k9) 7[8:9:10:11:12] times, k2tog, yf, k1, yf, skpo, k8. 

Row 5: As Row 1.

Rows 7 and 9: Knit.

Row 10: Purl.

These 10 rows set basic patt.

Rep Rows 1 to 10 three times more, then Rows 1 to 6 again.

Next row (RS): K8, (k2tog, k1, skpo, k9) 7[8:9:10:11:12] times, k2tog, k1, skpo, k8. 103[115:127:139:151:163] sts

Cont in Eyelet Patt as folls:

Row 1 (WS): Purl.

Row 2: Knit.

Row 3: Purl.

Row 4: K9, (yf, skpo, k10) 7[8:9:10:11:12] times, yf, skpo, k8.

Row 5: Purl.

Row 6: K7, (k2tog, yf, k1, yf, skpo, k7) 8[9:10:11:12:13] times.

Row 7: Purl.

Row 8: As Row 4.

Row 9: Purl.

Row 10: Knit.

Cont straight in Eyelet Patt as set, until work meas approx 33cm (13in) from beg, ending after Row 3.

Helpful Hint: On next row, work st at each side of dropped sts very firmly.

Next row (RS, on which ladders are formed): K15, (drop next st off left needle, k11) 6[7:8:9:10:11] times, drop next st, k15. 96[107:118:129:140:151] sts.

Run ladders down to their corresponding yfs. Cont in st st only for remainder and work a few rows straight until Front meas 37cm (14 1/2in) from beg, ending after a p row.

Shape armholes

Rows 1 and 2: Cast off 10[11:12:14:15:16] sts, work to end. 76[85:94:101:110:119] sts

Row 3: K1, skpo, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

Row 4: P1, p2tog, p to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1.

Rep last 2 rows 0[1:1:2:3:4] times more, then Row 3 again. 70[75:84:87:92:97] sts.

Next row: Purl.

Next row: As Row 3.

Rep last 2 rows until 66[71:76:81:84:87] sts rem. **

Purl 1 row.

Shape neck

Next row: K13[15:16:17:17:18], turn.

Cont on this group of sts for left half of neck.

Next row: P1, p2tog, p to end.

Work 4 more rows dec 1 st inside neck edge to match armholes on every row. 8[10:11:12:12:13] sts.

Cont straight until Front meas 54[56:57:58:59:60]cm, 21 1/4[22:22 1/2:22 3/4:23 1/4:23 1/2]in) from beg, ending at armhole edge.

Shape shoulder

Cast off 4[5:5:6:6:7] sts at beg of next row.

Work 1 row.

Cast off rem 4[5:6:6:6:6] sts.

With RS facing slip next 40[41:44:47:50:51] sts (centre sts) onto a holder and leave.

Neatly rejoin yarn to rem sts and k to end of row.

Next row: P to last 3 sts, p2tog tbl, p1.

Complete to match left half.

BACK

Work as Front to **.

Work 13 rows straight, ending after a p row.

Shape neck and complete as for Front.

FRONT NECK EDGING

With 3.25mm needles, RS facing, pick up and k32 evenly down left front neck, k across front neck sts dec 4[4:4:5:5:5] sts evenly, finally pick up and k32 sts evenly up right front neck. 100[101:104:106:109:110] sts.

Knit 4 rows.

Next row (picot row): Cast off 3 sts, *slip st on RH needle back on to LH needle, cast on 2 sts, cast off 6 sts firmly; rep from * until no sts rem.

BACK NECK EDGING

Work as Front Neck Edging but picking up 22 sts only at each side of back neck, giving a total of 80[81:84:86:89:90] sts.

ARMHOLE EDGINGS

Join shoulders and neck edgings.

With 3.25mm needles, RS facing, pick up and k95[103:108:115:123:128] sts evenly around armhole.

Work as Front Neck Edging.

TO FINISH OFF

With WS facing, block work to size and shape by pinning out around edgings.

Press following ball band instructions.

Join side seams and armhole edgings.

Press seams.
