1 pair each of 4.5mm and 5mm needles

Cable needle (cn)

TENSION

15 sts and 22 rows to 10cm over rev st st using 5mm needles.

68 sts to 37cm over cable pattern A using 5mm needles.

34 sts to 17cm over cable pattern B using 5mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

ABBREVIATIONS

Sl1 = slip 1 purl-wise with yarn at back of work.

CL = Left Cross

CR = Right Cross

4CL = sl2 sts onto cn at front of work, k2, then k2 from cn

4CR = sl2 sts onto cn at back of work, k2, then k2 from cn

2CRP = sl1 st onto cn at back of work, k2, then pi from cn 

2CLP = sl2 sts onto cn at front of work, p1, then k2 from cn

BACK

Using 4.5mm needles caston 69[75:81:87:95] sts.

Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1, rep from * to last st, k1.

Row 2: *P1, k1, rep from * to last st, p1.

These 2 rows form 1/1 rib, repeat until work measures 7cm (2.75in) (18 rows) total.

Change to 5mm needles.

Row 1 (RS): P7[10:13:16:20], then work Row 1 of Chart for cable pattern A as foll: m1, p1, k2, m1, k1, p1, m1, p3, m1, p3, k1, m1, k2, p6, m1, p6, k1, m1, k2, p6, m1, p6, k1, m1, k2, p3, m1, p3, m1, p1, k1, m1, k2, p1, m1, p7[10:13:16:20] sts. 82[88:94:100:108]sts.

Next row: K7[10:13:16:20], work the 68 sts from Row 2 of the Chart for cable pattern A, K7[10:13:16:20].

This row sets the patt, cont to work the side panels in rev st st and the centre panel from the Chart for cable panel A until Back meas 41 [42:43:43:44]cm (16[16.5:17:17:17.25]in) (92[94:98:98:100] rows) total.

Raglan shaping

Cast off 3[3:3:3:4] sts at beg of next 2 rows. 76[82:88:94:100] sts.

Next row (RS): K3, patt to last 3 sts, k3.

Next row: P3, patt to last 3 sts, p3.

Work 4[4:2:2:0] more rows in patt as set.

Next row (RS - dec): K2, sl2 sts onto cn at back of work, knit together the 1st stitch from the LH needle with the 1st stitch on the cn, then purl together the last st on the cn with the next st on the LH needle, patt to last 6 sts, sl2 sts onto cn at front of work, purl together the 1st stitch on the LH needle with the 1st stitch on the cn, take yarn to back of work, slip the last st from the cn onto the RH needle, knit the next st from LH needle and pass over the slipped st, k2.

Rep the dec row on every foil 4th row 10[11:12:13:14] more times. 32[34:36:38:40] sts. After the final dec work 3 more rows on the rem sts then cast off all sts for neck.

FRONT

Work as for Back until Front meas 41 [42:43:43:44]cm (16[16.5:17:17:17.25]in) (92[94:98:98:100] rows) total.

Raglan and neck shaping

Cast off 3[3:3:3:4] sts at beg of next 2 rows.

76[82:88:94:100] sts.

Next row (RS): K3, patt to last 3 sts, k3.

Next row: P3, patt to last 3 sts, p3.

Work 4[4:2:2:0] more rows in patt as set.

Next row (RS - dec): K2, sl2 sts onto cn at back of work, knit together the 1st stitch from the LH needle with the 1st stitch on the cn, then purl together the last st on the cn with the next st on the LH needle, patt to last 6 sts, sl2 sts onto cn at front of work, purl together the 1st stitch on the LH needle with the 1st stitch on the cn, take yarn to back of work, slip the last st from the cn onto the RH needle, knit the next st from LH needle and pass over the slipped st, k2.Rep the dec row on every foil 4th row 9[10:11:12:13] more times.

At the same time when work measures 59[61:63:65:67]cm (23.25[24:25:25.5:26.5]in) (132[136:142:146:150] rows) total cast off the central 12[14:16:18:20] sts for the neck, patt to end of row.

Each side of neck will now be worked separately. Patt to neck edge and place rem sts on a st holder. Keeping raglan shaping correct cast off at the neck edge on every RS row: 3 sts twice, 2 sts once and the rem 4 sts.

With WS of work facing rejoin yarn to remaining sts and work other side of neck in the same way, casting off at neck edge on every WS row: 3 sts twice, 2 sts once and the rem 4 sts.

LEFT SLEEVE

*Using 4.5mm needles cast on 37[39:41:43:45] sts.

Work in 1/1 rib as for Back until work meas 7cm (2.75in) (18 rows) total. Change to 5mm needles and starting with a purl row cont in rev st st for 12[10:10:8:8] rows.

Next row (RS - inc): P2, incl, work to last 2 sts, incl, p2.

Rep this inc on every foll 12th[10th:10th:8th:8th] row 1[6:2:10:4] times, then on every foll 10th[8th:8th:0:6th] row 6[2:7:0:8] times.

At the same time, when work measures 31cm (12.25in) (72 rows) total cont to work 34 sts from Chart for cable pattern B over the central 27 sts by inc 7 sts across Row 1 of Chart (see inc positions on Chart).

After the final inc at each side of the Sleeve cont on the 60[64:68:72:78] sts until work meas 50cm (19.75in) (114 rows) total.

Raglan shaping

Cast off 3[3:3:3:4] sts at beg of next 2 rows. Work 6[6:4:4:2] rows straight, working the first and last 3 sts at the beg and end of every row in st st as for Front and Back.

Work the raglan dec as for Front and Back at each edge of next RS row & then on every foll 4th row9[10:11:12:13]times. 14sts*

Next row (WS): Cast off 5 sts, work to end. 9 sts. Next row (RS): K2, dec 2 sts as before, work to end. 7 sts.

Next row (WS): Cast off 3 sts, work to end. 4 sts. Next row (RS): Cast off rem 4 sts.

RIGHT SLEEVE

Work as for left Sleeve from *to*. Work 1 row straight.

Next row (RS): Cast off 5 sts, work to last 6 sts, dec 2 sts as before. 7 sts. Work 1 row straight.

Next row (RS): Cast off 3 sts, work to end. 4 sts. Work 1 row straight.

Next row (RS): Cast off rem 4 sts.

NECKBAND

Using 4.5mm needles cast on 87[91:95:99:103] sts. Work in 1/1 rib as for Back for 8 rows then leave sts on a spare needle.

TO FINISH OFF

Join raglan seams. Using back-stitch graft the neckband around neck edge and join the short seam of the neckband. Sew side and Sleeve seams.
