Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

25 sts and 38 rows to 10cm over patt using 3.25mm needles.

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

BACK

Using 2.75mm needles, cast on 112[120:132:136:148:156] sts.

Row 1 (RS): K3, (p2, k2) to last st. k1.

Row 2: Kl, (p2, k2) to last 3 sts, p2, k1.

Rep these 2 rows until rib meas 6cm (2.25in), ending after Row 1. **

Next row: P, inc 5(7:5:11:9:11] sts evenly across row. 117[127:137:147:157:167] sts.

Change to 3.25mm needles and main patt

Row 1 (RS): K7, (p1, k1, p1, k7) to end.

Row 2 (WS): P8, (k1, p9) to last 9 sts, k1, p8.

Rep these 2 patt rows until work meas 39cm (15.5in) from cast-on edge, ending after Row 2. Change to yoke patt.

Rows 1 to 4: K1, (p1, k1) to end.

Row 5: K7, (p1, k1, p1, k7) to end.

Row 6: P8, (k1, p9) to last 9 sts, k1, p8.

Rows 7 to 14: Rep Rows 5 to 6 four times.

These 14 rows set yoke patt. Patt 4 more rows. Place marker at centre of last row.

Shape armholes

Shape shoulders

Cast off loosely 7(7:8:8:9:9) sts at beg of next 6 rows. 51[55:55:61:59:65] sts.

Cast off 7(8:7:10:8:10] sts at beg of next row. 44[47:48:51:51:55] sts.

Next row: Cast off 7(8:7:10:8:10) sts, work to end inc 1 st at centre of sts.

Slip rem 38[40:42:42:44:46] sts on holder and leave.

RIGHT FRONT

Using 2.75mm needles, cast on 56(60:64:68:72:76) sts work as Back to **.

Next row: P, inc 1[2:3:4:5:6] sts evenly across. 57(62:67:72:77:82) sts ***.

Change to 3.25mm needles and main patt for various sizes.

Shape top

Cast off loosely 5(7:9:10:12:14) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 81(81:83:87:87:93) sts.

Work 0(2:4:4:8:8) rows straight.

Dec 1 st at each end of next row and every foll RS row until 49(49:53:55:57:57) sts rem, then on every row until 31(31:35:37:39:39) sts rem.

Cast off loosely.

BORDERS

First join shoulders.

Using 2.75mm needles, or if preferred a circular 2.75mm needle, RS facing, pick up and k143(146:145:147:147:147] sts evenly up to start of Right Front slope, 58(58:62:64:67:70) sts evenly to top of right shoulder, k19[20:21:21:22:23) sts from first half of Back neck. 220(224:228:232:236:240] sts

If using a circular needle, work backwards and forwards in rows not rounds. Beg Row 2, work 8 rows in rib as for Back. Cast off firmly in rib.

Commencing at Back of neck, pick up 220(224:228:232:232:236:240] sts to match right border.

Work as right border but working 7 buttonholes on Rows 4 to 5 of rib rows as folls:

Row 4: Rib 81(85:89:93:97:101] (cast off 3 sts in rib, rib 19 - including st on RH needle after cast off) 6 times, cast off 3 sts, rib to end.

Row 5: In rib casting on 3 sts in each place where sts were cast off.

TO FINISH OFF

Omitting welt and cuffs, press work on WS foil pressing instructions.

Sew in Sleeve tops. Join side and Sleeve seams. Join borders at back of neck. Sew on buttons. Press seams.
