A 2 skeins of Amore from TLC (80% acrylic, 20% nylon; 6 oz/170 g) in color 3002 Black

B 1 skein of Deco-Ribbon from Crystal Palace Yarns (70% acrylic, 30% nylon; 50 g; 80 yds) in color 9411 Newsprint

Size H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge 5 (5, 6) buttons, 1/2" diameter

Tapestry needle

Sewing needle and matching thread

Safety pin or thread for stitch marker

GAUGE 14 sc and 16 rows = 4"

Note: To change color, work until 2 lps of last st remain on hook. With new color, YO and draw through 2 fps on hook. 

BACK

With A, ch 36 (38, 40).

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch-35 (37, 39) sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc, changing to B in last sc. Fasten off A. Turn.

Row 4: With B, ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each sc, changing to A in last sc. Fasten off B. Turn.

Rows 6 and 7: With A, ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 8: Ch 1, sc in each sc, changing to B in last sc. Fasten off A. Turn.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

LEFT FRONT

With A, ch 18 (19, 20).

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch-17 (18, 19) sc. Turn.

Rows 2-23 (27, 31): Rep rows 2-23 (27, 31) of back.

Shape Armhole

Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, sc in each sc to last 3 (3, 4) sc. Turn, leaving rem sc unworked—14 (15, 15) sc.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Rows 3-10: Rep row 2.

Shape Left-Front Neck and Shoulder

Row 1 (WS): Sl st in first * 6 sc, ch 1, sc in same sc as last sl st made; sc in each rem sc-9 (10, 10) sc. Turn. 

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc in next 7 (8, 8) sc, sc2tog-8 (9, 9) sc. Turn. 

Rows 3-6 (6, 8): Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for left front to armhole shaping.

Shape Right-Front Neck and Shoulder

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, sc2fog, sc in each rem sc-8 (9, 9) sc. Turn.

Rows 3-6 (6, 8): Ch 1, sc m each sc. Turn. At end of last row, fasten off.

Button Placket

Hold right front with RS facing you and center edge at top.

Row 1 (RS): Join A in edge of first row, ch 1, sc in same row, and in edge of each row to neck shaping-33 (37, 41) sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Fasten off.

Buttonhole Placket

Hold left front with RS facing you and center edge at top.

Row 1 (RS): Join A in edge of first row at beg of neck shaping, ch 1, sc in same row and in edge of each rem row—33 (37, 41) sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first 7 (5, 7) sc, ch 1, sk next sc-buttonhole made; *sc in next 5 [6, 5) sc, ch 1, sk next sc-buttonhole made; rep from * 3 (3, 4) times, sc in next 1 (3, 3) sc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc and each ch sp. Fasten off and weave in tails. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes.

SLEEVES

With A, ch 22 (all sizes].

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch-21 sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc, changing to B in last sc Fasten off A. Turn.

Rows 4 and 5: With B, rep row 2, changing to A in last sc of row 5. Fasten off B.

Row 6: With A, rep row 2.

Row 7: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc-23 sc. Turn.

Rows 8-10: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Rows 11-18 (18, 22): Work rows 7-10 another 2 (2, 3) times-27 (27, 29) sc.

Row 19 [19, 23): Rep row 7-29 (29, 31) sc. Rep row 2 until sleeve measures 7 1/2 [8, 8 1/2)", ending with RS row. Fasten off.

With RS tog, sew shoulder seams. Matching center st on last row of sleeves to shoulder seams, sew sleeves to body. Sew sleeve and side seams, Fasten off.

HOOD

Hold sweater with RS facing you and neck at lap; join A in first st to left of placket on right front.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in some st and in next 4 sts; working along shoulder in edge of each row, 2 sc in first row, sc in next 5 (5, 7) rows, sc in seam; working along back, sc in next 13 sc and in next seam, sc in next 5 (5, 7) rows, 2 sc in next row, sc in next 5 sc-39 (39, 43) sc. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc. Turn.

Rows 3-5: Rep row 2.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first 18 (18, 20) sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, mark this st, 2 sc in next sc, sc in each rem sc—41 (41, 45) sc. Turn.

Rows 7-11: Rep row 2.

Row 12: Ch 1, sc in each sc to sc before marked st, 2 sc in next sc, sc in marked sc, 2 sc sn next sc, sc in each rem sc—43 (43, 47) sc. Turn.

Rows 13-30: Rep rows 7-12 three times—49 (49, 53) sc.

Rows 31-32 (36, 38): Rep row 2, Fasten off.

Fold hood in half lengthwise with RS tog and sew seam along last row.
